Layout = the new permanent layout + old temp layout holes 2-5 (will be 5a, 5b, 5c and 5d) + old temp layout holes 15-16 (will be 2a, 2b). Most baskets will move between rounds (most holes have 2 or 3 pin positions). Looking for help moving baskets and adding scores.

Rec plays short tees both rounds. Womens tees are TBD based on who signs up and what you'd prefer to play.
Open, Adv & Int divisions play long tees both rounds.

Lunch
TBD will have hot food available for purchase on site between rounds provided by Smokin' Chefs. If you played last year, the same thing. They will have burgers and hot dog lunch and BBQ (pre-order only) packages available for $5-$7, so bring some extra cash.

Side Action: There will be significant additional day of cash divisional side action, back by popular demand.
Side action will consist of:
1 - CTPs/Ace = $10. This gets you Ace fund, 3 cash CTPs, 7 merchandise CTPs with over $50/each of stuff (all will have beer). You're either in for $10 or completely out on these, no splitting it up.
2 - Divisional Side Action = $10 to $20 buy-in, Fish is running this, not affiliated with the tourney (since it's PDGA)
3 - Raffle = $1/ticket. Picking at least 5 winners and the grand prize is a Disc-catcher Sport Metal Basket

*********************

There will be course workdays leading up to this event to ensure pristine conditions. Please come lend a hand. Dates will be posted soon.

*********************

This remains a charitable event, hence the low entry fee and trophy only payout. Proceeds this year will entirely be used to install the permanent disc golf course in Perkerson Park through an affiliation with Friends of Perkerson Park (501c3).

We have to raise $8,000 in monetary donations to be able to access the entire $46,500 matching grant we've been awarded to complete the installation of concrete teepads, signage and recompense trees. This is in addition to past funds raised. Thus far, we've raised about $600 of the $8,000.

We have raised approximately $12,000 in the last 6 years of this event for the Sullivan Center and Friends of Perkerson Park.

The event is filling faster than it ever has, thanks for the early registrations -- although I was hoping to catch some people with the higher entry fees!

We'll be holding two weekend workdays prior to the event to ensure the course is fully installed (signage, pins, etc) and in top shape. Please consider coming out. Dates will be set soon and posted here and on Facebook.

I'm actively looking for sponsors. This will be our last fundraising event and the money raised will go directly into the course improvements, so any help finding sponsors is very appreciated. Depending on how much we raise, we will be able to fund next tee signs and possibly a bulletin board. I'm looking for cash donations and product/prize donations for the raffle. I've already got some very cool stuff donated and will be selling raffle tix for $1/each with lots of prizes.

Sponsors already:
Audrey Arnson
Derek Rader
Martin Young
Adam Toll
Allgood Pools (Justin Drage)
Rocket City Chain Gang
Michael Burton

Nope, I'm only 22 points higher than everyone else in my division and that doesn't include the people that haven't renewed their PDGA fee. I'm playing Advanced because I don't get to play many tournaments and I want to make sure I earn enough PDGA points to get my invite to 2015 Worlds in Kalamazoo, MI. That's where I'm from and my mom still lives up there. Plus, it doesn't really matter what division I play because it's a trophy only tournament.

See you all there BB

Postby mullethead326 » Sun Feb 02, 2014 11:19 pm

Please come help out at Perkerson on February 9th and February 22nd. Those dates were selected to accommodate folks who want to play other tournaments nearby, have time to spare on weekends, and don't directly conflict with any other events in the Atlanta area before the Perkerson Park Open. If you cannot make those days but want to volunteer, contact me and we will find a time that works.

Plan to meet at 0900 at the lower parking lot. We'll work for a few hours (say, until noon or a little after), and then play the course. No official action, but you're welcome to bet anything up to a kidney. I will be there regardless of weather. You will too.

Sunday, February 9th:

-Set final pins on holes 5 (left), 6 (middle), 9 (long), 11 (dig up one a mower hit), 12 (left), 13 (short). All others are complete.
-Transfer discarded sod from hole 13's fairway to around teepads
-Cut branches on 1
-Clear better path on 5
-Remove branches/debris/litter all over course
-Cut 4x4s in sections, screw together to make square frames, place frames around pins

Saturday, February 22nd:

-Put in signs. We're hoping they will be ready to place by that time.

For the first workday (February 9th), it would be great if you could contact me at afish3, gmail, or post here with any relevant tools you can bring.

I will bring:
1 wheelbarrow
1 box screws
drill+bits
1 level
1 pair loppers
1 handsaw
2 shovels
1 post-hole digger
8 bags concrete
3 buckets
1 hammer
basket sleeves
rebar

I need someone else to bring:
3 wheelbarrows
1 ladder (10' or greater)
Sawz-all
Up to 47 untreated 4x4s, 8 ft
Circular saws capable of cutting 4x4s
Sawhorses
Extension cords
Carpenters squares
Measuring tapes
Additional shovels, rakes, handsaws, loppers, post-hole diggers, hammers, buckets
Angle grinders and sufficient cutting wheels to cut rebar

You may notice that this list includes angle grinders and circular saws. Circular saws won't happen unless we have enough 4x4s. If you wish to use either of those power tools, you will wear long pants, closed-toed shoes, leather workgloves, safety glasses, and ear protection. There will be no exceptions. We will not be using chainsaws during this workday.

Thank you for your help. If you whine about the course and don't offer any help, you will receive a Destroyer to the windpipe.

Wait list and registration updated. Note the change in format -- we are now playing two rounds of 22 holes. The extra 4 holes are old/temp layout 2-5, which will play between current #5 and #6.

This Saturday, February 22nd, will be another workday in preparation for the Perkerson Park Open. It looks like signs won't make it here by this weekend, so we are planning to cut 4x4s and assemble them into squares to frame pin locations so that mowers won't damage them. Meet at the pavilion at the lower gravel parking lot at 0900.

I will bring the following:
8 4x4s
Screws
Drill
Rebar
Angle Grinder
2 pairs safety glasses
earplugs
workgloves
square
measuring tape
wheelbarrow

I need others to bring:
Up to 39 treated 4"x4"x8' (can be reimbursed)
Circular saws
Extension cords
Sawhorses
squares
measuring tapes
hammers
shovels

Also, if someone has about 12 feet of climber's webbing, I would love to borrow it so I can cut some branches on hole 1.

As last time, if you wish to use any power tools, you will wear pants, closed-toed shoes, workgloves, safety glasses, and earplugs; no exceptions.

Best,

Here is our tentative plan for where each basket will be for the 2014 Perkerson Park Open. They will be moved into the first-round position today (February 17) and will remain there until tournament day.

In addition to the tournament buy-in, there will be optional side action for CTPs, ace fund, and payout, for which all divisions are eligible. CTPs are indicated below, and will be active for both rounds. They will move with the basket if applicable. If an ace is not hit, there will be a throw-off on old #1 above the pavilion.

I will also be running bag-tag action at the event for Atlanta, Cobb, Northside, and Southside.

*new positions since Oct 2013 tournament

1 right, left* CTP
2 short left, long left*
3 long right*, long left
4 short left, long* $$ CTP
5 right, middle CTP
[4 temp holes; old 4 will be CTP]
6 right, left
7 right*, left CTP
8 short right, long right CTP
9 left*, middle

10 right*, left* CTP
11 short*, middle
12 right, right
13 long, short* CTP
14 short right*, long right $$ CTP
15 left*, center (on pedestal)
16 medium, long CTP
17 right, long left* LONG PUTT
18 left, right

If you wish to know anything more (hole distances, descriptions of temp holes, course conditions, directions to the park, what time the second round starts, if teepad rubber is safe to eat) please write to your Congressman with your name, division, PDGA number, and contact info. For example, mine is John Lewis (D) of Georgia's 5th district. You can search for your Representative using your zip code at http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/

If you change basket locations, you can not keep the CTP for both rounds.
No way this would be fair to the person holding the CTP after the first round.

Just think, if the basket position in the second round is easier to reach than the first round position
you are not being fair to whomever held the CTP for round 1.

Fun fact, every CTP hole that moves will move to an equally or more difficult location after the first round, as supported by distances (reliable), anecdotal evidence (subjective and unreliable) and previous tournament data (reliable).

Here is a bunch of random tourney notes:

We're installing the permanent tee signs this week on Wednesday and Thursday. Any help is appreciated. Fish will be there all day, just come on out, especially Wednesday.

We need 3 high quality metal baskets for the 4 temp course holes that will be used. Post here if you can bring one. I'm looking for permanent quality baskets.

The temp layout holes are marked with spray paint (teeboxes) and wood stakes (pins). The temp holes are holes #2-#5 from the temp layout ... I don't have a map to post, but if you go to http://www.dgcoursereview.com, the hole photos are posted and you can figure it out. We will have carpet teepads setup for the long tees on these holes by tourney time. During the tourney these will play between #5 and #6. Old #3 is slightly different than it used to be because of new trees, teepad is 30' closer. All of the permanent holes are currently setup in the 1st round position.

4 - Basket Throw-off = $1/throw. This will be setup on old hole #1 and run during registration, lunch and final scores. This will have multiple winners also.

I've got a significant amount of donated swag that will be doled out through the CTPs, basket raffle and basket throw-off. It's high quality stuff so bring some extra $$ with you as you will likely want to get in on it, especially if you like beer. This includes 5 cases and 2 growlers of micro-brew beer, a metal DG basket, a large Red Hook cooler, 2 DG bags, restaurant gift certificates, innova shirts, discs and more.

Players pack includes a KC Pro Aviar with tourney stamp. I have a small quantity of discs for sale at the event: KC Aviars $15/ea and Champion Glo Teebirds $20/ea.

Lunch will be the same as last year, provided by Smokin' Chefs with BBQ, hot dogs and burgers. I'll get a menu posted this week and will be sending out a pre-order survey to all registered players via email in the next few days. Food will be ready as soon as you finish round 1 so you don't need to leave between rounds.

Remember that the tourney is on the first day of daylight savings time and plan accordingly for the time change.

I'm looking for help day of the event to make sure everything runs smoothly. Need help with registration, scoring, running the basket throw-off and moving baskets between rounds. No need to tell me in advance, just find me at the event.

Big last minute change -- going to add 2 more holes, so we'll have a total of 100 players (this lets 4 people in, and we'll have one less ghost card group). It will now be two rounds of 24.

The holes will be 2a (same as old #15) and 2b (similar to old #16, but longer and less OB, still par 3).

We will likely get started a little earlier. Going to nail down the schedule by tonight and will post here, facebook and via email. Anyone registered that provided a correct email address will be emailed a PDF containing the event program and the scorecard prior to the event.

Still have 4 hole sponsorships available (20 are sold).

Top post updated with details including a SCHEDULE CHANGE. Ignore all other posts. I've added downloadable maps, program and scorecards. Wait list is current as of 9am on 3/5/14

24 holes is definitely ambitious and a lot of golf, so I need help with scoring (especially) and moving baskets to keep it running as fast as possible. The more help we have, the faster it will go.

We ended up playing two rounds of 22 holes with 100 participants -- both records that likely to stand for a while. The new tee signs are all installed and the course is looking better than it ever has.

I'm very busy with work and travel for work this week and it probably won't be until Thursday that I have time to input the scores, possibly later.

We had a car broken into in the upper parking lot (baseball fields) and a car stolen that was parked in front of the playground in the main lot. We're rethinking security during events and will need to have lot attendants and better controlled parking during future events. If you are playing at the park, be sure not to leave any valuables in your car, especially not in plain view.

John - I know you posted you are busy, but can someone else upload the scores for you so you meet the PDGA Sanctioning agreement? (I can do it if you let me have the scores and password)

As State Coordinator -one of the things asked for this year was to help to keep this part followed - it is new this year...Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Keith

Inclusion of a requirement to upload unofficial results via PDGA Tournament Manager at different intervals depending on the Tier level of the event:
o NT – upload after each Round of competition
o A-Tier – upload after each Day of competition
o B-Tier – upload at the completion of the event
o C-Tier – upload within 24 hours of the completion of the event.

As State Coordinator, that is very proper of you to help and offer your assistance Keith. As always, your actions say a lot about you.

This isn't the place, and I'll offer my opinion kindly to the appropriate party, but I think 24 hours for a C-Tier is a bit much. Sometimes, after a tourney, the first 24 hours can be better spent in recovery or at least getting back to a normally scheduled life. That's a lot to ask on a Monday. Remind me to never host a Sunday tourney again...

What d-wiz said! I hope the punishment isn't too harsh and that I won't be banished from running events ...

I will take you up on that offer, I think I'm about to be emailed photos of the board. Hopefully that works or it will be Thursday when I sit down at the airport.

John E-mailed me the info (photos) and I'm working on it now - I have to transcribe it into excel and upload it....

John -to answer your concern - I'm gonna assume and go with "if you submit your report on time and pay your fees - it probably won't be an issue" - but do NOT quote me on that as since this is the first year and the PDGA has a new Event Manager - things might be different....
Hopefully with you getting them to me as State coordinator and me getting them up within 50 hours of the Event it won't be a problem.

Enjoy your time off form the area and thanks for getting me the stuff.

Keith

PS...Thanks to Mashburn for the kind words....and I'm willing to help ANY TD out that needs it with following the new guidelines that YOU ALL as TD's agreed to when you sanctioned your Event....If for some reason you can't do it -try to find someone at the Event who can or send me the scores (on a spreadsheet - not in pictures please) and the TD Password, and I'll get them uploaded for you...

For future tournaments you may be able to hire an officer for the duration of the tournament. Most police agencies allow their officers to work these special details. The officer should stay in the area and generally stay very visible. You wouldn't have to worry about him having to leave to handle a call or something like that. I don't know what the rates are but I don't think it's super cheap.

ok -this is going to take MUCH longer now as there are no PDGA #'s which are required to upload on the PDGA site -so I have to manually search each name (96 of them) to get a #.

Also for other TD's for the future PLEASE put real names down on spreadsheet (cute names are funny for signups, but make knowing who is who for PDGA # difficult)
999 name, division is not visible - don't know who that is
Brad Traylor's score was wrong but didn't change his position (if he was in MA3 - card shows MA2, but is in with MA3 scores)
I hope to get all the #'s down and get scores up hopefully be up before I have to go to work in 6 hours....

I searched USA database - but for names in black if they have PDGA #'s they can give them to John so he can have them on the TD Report correctly.

The going rate for a uniformed officer is around $20-$35 an hour based on the city or county they are in. This is because they are working on their own time and is generally looked at as OT work. My opinion is to get someone patrolling the park during Iron Leaf and make it known it will happen or you will see the lowest attendance ever for this event.

Or maybe the Iron Leaf Classic needs to move again. :(

Why here of course: www.gwinnettcountyopen.com/cart

You still have time for "the change" to take effect before OCT.
