PDGA sanctioned weekly GLOW league at Oregon Park!

6 week league – Tuesday nights - Beginning on November 13, 2012 running through December 18, 2012.
6:00pm sign in begins - round scheduled to begin promptly @ 6:30 pm.

We’ll be playing a mix of all four layouts during the league.

Minimum buy In…
$5 minimum (for current Cobb Disc Golf Club members)
$6 minimum (for non-Cobb Disc Golf Club members)

Break down of buy in...
$.50 goes to the PDGA (per player fee, per sanctioning agreement)
$.50 goes to the Cobb Disc Golf Club (applied to league costs & the $25 PDGA league fee)
$4.00 goes to payout
$1.00 for non-Cobb Disc Golf Club members (goes directly to course improvement fund)

There’s also an optional $5 buy-in including four $1 CTP’s and a $1 ace fund!
The first week will start off with $20 in the ace pot.

Due to the smaller anticipated glow league turnout we'll just be offering one division, a handicap scoring league. Payouts will be awarded for the lowest score after handicap stokes are applied. We'll also use Disc Golf Scene to track points. You'll be awarded 1 point for each player you beat (using handicap scores) and points will accumulate over the course of the six weeks. A prize for the overall point’s leader will be awarded.

Remember, you don’t have to play every week to participate in this league. Jump in anytime. You also don’t have to be a PDGA member. There are no non-PDGA member fees for leagues.

The PDGA will allow us to attach LED lights on our discs for night disc golf and still be legally PDGA sanctioned! We will have plenty of the flat LED lights for sale at check-in for $1 each. They are easily attached with tape and do not noticeably effect the disc’s flight.

Not that I'm aware of. But I imagine the ratings will be reflective of how the propagators play. I don't think that a night golf round will be at the same rating as one in the daylight because obviously there will be a few more stokes recorded by everyone, maybe similar to a round in the wind or rain. In other words, I believe a par round will rate higher at night than the day because it theoretically should be slightly more difficult to hit. I am pretty sure this will be the first PDGA sanctioned glow league so we are testing the waters both in terms of ratings and if there is even any interest in a sanctioned glow league. That is one of the reasons we are only doing 6 weeks (the minimum for a PDGA league). If it flops we may just go back to regular ol’ unsanctioned glow Tuesday’s or whatever the newly elected Cobb Disc Golf event’s guy has in store for us in 2013.

Thanks to Bob Williams for keeping track of the handicaps for everyone who played in the last three, 10 round leagues at Oregon Park this summer. Even if you played the scratch division Bob still calculated the handicaps for you just in case. Turns out it that it was a good idea because we can now apply them to this Glow league. If you played and don't see your name on the list and you plan to participate in the current glow league let me know and we'll look back and update accordingly. Any new players will have to establish their handicap as we plug along. Note that the handicaps adjust according to layout, Silver to Silver - Silver to Gold - Gold to Silver - Gold to Gold. In the future the handicaps will be updated weekly on Disc Golf Scene on the news board in the League page.

I've heard from a few that they will be here tomorrow night, Tuesday Dec 4th, so I'm hoping for a better turnout. We'll be playing Silver to Gold this time. As mentioned, we have LED lights for sale ($1 each) and we have tape for you to attach them to your discs. This will be the fourth round in the current 6 round league. Everyone's welcome to play, PDGA member or not, or if you'd participated in earlier league rounds or not. Jump in anytime.

Come out tonight for the 6th and final round of the PDGA sanctioned glow league at Oregon Park. We’ll be playing silver to silver again so a good chance to get some birdies and of course plenty of ace runs. 6:30 tee off.

FYI, we will not be doing PDGA sanctioned glow leagues after tonight’s round. We are still finalizing a new format for Tuesday glow rounds, probably something with a really small buy-in or perhaps even free with optional side action. The new glow singles format will begin Tuesday nights after the holidays until the time change this spring.
