Last year we ended up with 141 participants playing. I am making plans assuming that the tournout will be close to that again, so please help out and sign up early.

If you sign up on-line, through the mail or in person you will save money as prices on the day of the tournament will be $5 higher. I can take cash, check or even credit/debit if you catch me on the course. PM me if you want to register by mail.

This year, the GCO is a B Tier, 2 day, 4 round tournament. 2 rounds at Lenora Park and 2 rounds at Alexander Park. No swapping courses during lunch!

Juniors will play Saturday only and will play their 2 rounds at Lenora. Of course Juniors can always sign up to play another division and still get any junior awards Plus whatever they win in the division they play,

The layout of stuff on the page is a bit . . . unexpected. The "Add to Cart" button that you click to move on beyond the first screen is at the top of the page, so once you've filled out everything, you have to scroll back up and then click it.

Int will play the blues at Alexander and probably the same layout as Advanced at Lenora. If necessary for ratings, they may play hole 2 differently at Lenora. I will know for sure by the 3rd and will post the hole information then.

I am considering a couple of basket moves between rounds at Alexander only. If the logistics work out (I need a couple of vollunteers each day to switch them) We can move 6, 11 and 17 (mid to long) between rounds each day.

If your thinking of playing every hole the same but one for advanced and intermediate what's the point might as well leave it all the same because that's a hole were there will be more scoring separation then all others which makes the ratings higher for advanced and won't hurt them as much.

Yep. Most of the juniors over 13 are playing Rec (in fact, they're the majority of the division right now). At least with playing both rounds at the same park each day we don't have the mid-day transportation issue, but getting them there and then getting back to our course for the first round each day is going to be a challenge, as is getting them lunch (we can pack a lunch, but unless they schlep it around with them the first round not sure where they're going to stash it -- ordinarily, we'd just keep it in the car, but . . .).

No reason you should have to absorb the cost -- I'm sure we could collectively work something out if we can find someone who can handle the on-site logistics (picking up and distributing lunch, etc.). My wife and other kids aren't able to be there either day, which is why I'd be concerned with having a solid plan (either collectively or individually).

Seems to me that if we can identify someone (or a couple of someones) who's able to drive to the course for the Rec division, amongst those of us who're affected, we could meet at the shopping center at Reagan Parkway and Scenic Highway, roughly equidistant between the parks and relatively accessible to Reagan Parkway, Scenic Highway, and Hwy 78, and split up the cars, drivers, and passengers to their respective destinations, without adding dramatically to the time required for everyone to get where they're going.

I'm serious about the lunch offer. I'll have it available and you can have your kids participate, or make other arrangements.

I guess I still don't understand this timing issue. Check-in lasts an hour and the trip between parks is 20-30 minutes. We'll even have people at tournament central 1/2 hour before check-in so you really have 90 minutes. I won't leave Alex until everyone is picked up.

On Sunday there will be someone at each park at least an hour before round start so again, you can drop off, drive to the park and still have 30+ minutes to warm up. We can Carpool the kids to the awards ceremony (which I'm hoping to have at a more central location).

I'm not trying to be argumentative. I really want to help alleviate any problems as best I can.

I know that you're not being argumentative, and that you sincerely want to make things work for everyone. I just know how many things there are to deal with on an event this size for the TD, and the more we can work out for ourselves the more you can focus on all the other stuff.

It's not that getting the sub-driving-age kids to the other park and then getting back in time to check in and warm up is impossible; it just means that much more to worry about, and having to get an even earlier start than otherwise. With Lenora being at least a 50 minute drive from Roswell, and Alexander at least 45, and allowing at least 30 minutes to drop off and make sure things are set and then getting from one park to another, allowing time for getting breakfast, packing lunch, etc., we're looking at needing to leave the house no later than about 6:30-6:45, assuming sign-in begins around 8. That means being up at 5:30 or earlier. For the Dickersons and anyone else coming from that part of the world, they're going to need to start even earlier. Sunday will be slightly later, but not dramatically.

When we're both piling all our stuff in the same car and going to the same place, we don't have to worry as much about each of us having everything we need and nothing that belongs to the other, since we can both use the car as a base of operations. We just have to be more careful and deliberate about all of that in this case.

To be clear, I'm not arguing for you to change anything about the course assignments or scheduling or anything. Just trying to work out among those of us who're affected what's going to do the most to minimize stress and potential problems.

I have been there and asked that. The PDGA releases player ratings about every month or month and a half. The next one will be on the 13th of this month, but the GCO happened too late to enter in ratings. Your first official PDGA rating will be the next one that comes out after tomorrow if you are a PDGA member. However, you can pretty much average your four rounds ratings from the GCO and get your rating. I know they drop the worst round ratings in the average but I'm not sure how many rounds you need before they begin to drop the lowest rated rounds.

Thanks Alan. From the very first day I had lunch with Rand to ask him how a fairly new player would go about running a SuperClass tournament at Lenora (he quickly talked me out of that), I wanted to start small and grow to a B-Tier. It was great to finally get here.
2009, 72 player cap, everyone at Lenora, then everyone at Alex. 1-day C-Tier
2010-2011, 144 player cap, both parks running at the same time. 1-day C-Tier (both years sold out, though a couple of people didn't show)
2012, 144 player cap (first non sell-out) 2-day B-Tier
2013 ??? (probably the same, but hopefully a sell-out)

I have been there and asked that. The PDGA releases player ratings about every month or month and a half. The next one will be on the 13th of this month, but the GCO happened too late to enter in ratings. Your first official PDGA rating will be the next one that comes out after tomorrow if you are a PDGA member. However, you can pretty much average your four rounds ratings from the GCO and get your rating. I know they drop the worst round ratings in the average but I'm not sure how many rounds you need before they begin to drop the lowest rated rounds.

Actually, if there's still a red x showing next to a name in the "current" column in the results, and there's no PDGA number showing in that column, then you either are not now and never have been a PDGA member, or your PDGA number isn't associated with your name in the results uploaded by the TD. For Lost in the Woods, even players who joined and got their PDGA numbers just a few days before the tournament showed as current when I uploaded the results if I had their number entered correctly.

In case there's any confusion -- if you're not a PDGA member and you play a sanctioned event, you pay an extra $10, and the PDGA behind the scenes does assign a number and begin keeping track of your tournament scores/ratings. However, no one, including you, gets to see that rating until/unless you actually do join the PDGA.

They don't necessarily drop any of your worst rated rounds. They do drop any rounds that are either (a) more than 100 points below your current rating, or (b) more than 2.5 standard deviations below your current rating (like, say, my GCO round at Lenora last year ). The ratings calculation includes all your rounds for the most recent 12 months, and if there are fewer than 8 rounds it continues to pull in additional rounds from more than 12 months ago, newest to oldest, until there are at least 8 rounds. The most recent 1/4 of your rounds are double-weighted so that they count more than older rounds. More consistent players generally won't have any rounds dropped -- Matt Dollar, for example, has 87 rounds from the last 12 months used in his current rating, and no dropped rounds during that time. I, on the other hand, being a model of *in*consistency, have two out of 20 dropped. Both were more than 100 points below my rating at the time.

It is funny to some now but one disc golfer in particular was extremely rude and I was hoping he would get his butt whooped. The round 4 drama was taken to a whole entirely different level by this particular disc golfer and I was walking over to let him know and then he left. The non-tourney players began playing during lunch and I can see how they thought nothing was going on at the moment and began playing. If he said the stuff to me that he said to the players not in the tourney, he would have been down for the count.

I was at hole 5's basket 40 feet from it all and was honestly aggravated it was taken to that level and embarrassed for him and the tournament. It was actually appalling as opposed to funny.

I can do that if you'd like. I'm not at all trying to get anyone in trouble or raise the issue. I personally thought it was overboard and thus don't really think it is a laughing matter.

So this was about the Hole 2 incident at Lenora. For some reason I thought it was something different at Alex. There were some people on Hole 2 impeding play. They were not responding well to the park staffer who asked them to leave.

It wasn't a pretty incident and was probably not handled perfectly by either party, but no one was hurt and we should probably let it lie at this point.

I submitted the report on November 13th. Apparently there was something missing because it didn't get in. I have call into the PDGA and I will get it resolved. Unfortunately they don't back fixes into the current ratings so it'll be the next update.
