Great set up out there, was awesome to be able to play all 18. For those who haven't been, the pics don't do the course justice, and plan on hiking up and down hills a lot. Its like hole 10 and 11 at sequoyah over and over, but longer and with blind pin positions.

Now for the lost disc... It was a red star wraith, went long right on hole 8 in the ditch with briars, last seen about pin high? Has HUK lab butterfly on top, my name and PDGA number on inside rim.

Bad put on 17 just barely made it to the ede of the water (tee side shore, right near the big branch in the water) and sank out of sight.

This hurts sooo bad so please keep an eye out.

LOST! Orange Flash with a black crowe stamp (has name and number). Bad drive on #17--went straight into the lake; looks like we are going to need some professional divers. This was my absolute favorite disc and I am desperate to get it back. I would be glad to volunteer time on the course or assist any divers with fees or labor.

retrieved a couple of orange discs from the lake (on hole 15 and 16). Owners called. Neither of them was a Z buzzz. Also, greg I remembered to tie the rope of my retriever to my wrist. Unfortunately I forgot not to step ankle deep in the lake...

LOST: Bright Green/Yellow champion Boss 173g in shule on #8 almost right enough to be considered on #5. Owner is Jim Strickland (not sure if his number is on there.) He also lost a tye-dyed Pro Valkerie in the lake on 17 but I think the Boss may be more likely to be found.

I was out there today and right off the edge of 17's green, the water drops to over 5' at
about 1' off the edge. I'm sure when it's warmer, Chris Millay will be in there to retrieve his 20
discs and will more than likely find many others.

Don't feel bad Scott. I've seen ace runs that just clip the scraggly trees at the edge of the green that
end up in Davey Jone's locker. I think we need to trim those trees some.

We really do need to trim the smaller stuff on that green.

I would like to trim all the small trees back on the front side of the penninsula. Not take them out completely, but trim them down so more shots have a chance.

Any thoughts on putting rollaway protection on 17 along the waters edge? Maybe a small log or something so relatively good shots that get unlucky don't necessarily roll in? Also, I was thinking it would be cool to put a flag on hole 6's pin so you can get a good feel for wind direction at the pin. Maybe this should go in another thread...

Those are both great ideas.

I would really like to put flags on all the baskets. Anyone with some connections, give me a hollar!!

As for 17, There is alot of things we could and will be doing on that green. I would like to trim the smaller trees on the front side to allow more shots onto the green.

As for rollaways, what do you think of some landscaping edging around the green? Might not stop all of the rollaways, but it would give you a better chance.

Of course, we don't want to make it too easy!! Thats the fun part of that hole. Are you on the green or in the drink??

So, do you bowl on the lanes with bumpers in the gutters? If it rolls off the edge, it should be spottable.
Since we don't have any courses with water hazards other than Deerlick, most locals aren't prepared for
this. In other places it is common to see people carrying ball golf retrievers to get discs out of water.
Rollaway protection would just be cheating on the hole.

I don't disagree with this and I don't like the idea of the hole being "easy" but I just cringe when a perfect looking shot lands 40 ft from the water and trickles all the way down and is OB. There isn't a whole lot of flat ground on the green.

I'm gonna have to agree with the fact that it gets deep FAST. There are spots immediately off the shore on 17 that drop 2-3 feet into murky water with lots of debris and leaves. I quit throwing good discs that I use regularly on that hole. I now have 7 discs in the water out at White Oak (is that a record, can I get a consolation prize of some sort?), and 4 of them landed either onshore and rolled or splashed down within 1-2 feet of the shore, never to be seen again. I know I should take the wuss route over the land, but that hyzer just looks so pretty. I wouldnt mind seeing some roll away protection (railroad ties, chicken wire, midgets with snorkels), or at least a good amount of tree trimming on the peninsula near the basket. The protection doesnt even need to be around the whole peninsula, just that front steep part to the left of the basket. Everywhere else around the basket is relatively shallow right off the shore. I also had an idea that might save some people some wetness. Tie some ropes around a few of the bigger trees up high so that people have something to hold onto while they're searching for submerged discs right off shore. Those little @$$ trees that line the shore dont provide very good support. That shore is sooo damn steep, plus there's a bunch of false ground where the leaves have collected and seem to provide a little support, until a branch underneath breaks and your foot goes in. Just a few sturdy ropes would allow people to traverse the perils of 17 with a little more confidence. Just a few ideas, but everything else at White Oak is awesome!

Or to keep the difficulty of the shot intact,

I heard somebody suggest a cast net of some sort in the water lining the penninsula..mayb a good 10 - 15ft out so if any discs land in that range, 1 or 2 people can pull up the net and retrieve the discs..but its still OB.
but then some people might not put the net back correctly. or somebody can volunteer to clear the net every week or 2...just an idea.

Have yet to play the course but I am very interested by all the pics and comments.

Heres my comment: Put some constuction mesh barrier at the bottom and make it OB to be against it. Newbies hate losing plastic and nothing hurts more than losing it at the end of what was a great day out at the course. For the more competitve of us the barrier will keep the disc from getting lost without losing penalty for a bad or unlucky shot.

Since hole 17 is the subject and cause of the majority of this thread, this discussion is in the right place. If someone would
like to place snow fencing (the slotted orange kind) around the edge, have at it. Or, you could make it more natural and put

I like the log idea. Gives a little footing when trying to retrieve discs and won't block skip shots from having a chance of getting to land.

We would have to have flooding to make the green smaller.

The pond runs off out of the creek by hole #15 tee pad so I do not think it would ever flood #17.

And if anyone finds them I lost two discs out there the other day.

1st - Hole # 13, bad tee shot ended up by 14's tee somewhere under the leaves. It is a Pinkish Champion Destroyer with the 1KT disc tour stamp. Name and PDGA # on the inside rim.

2nd - Hole #17 tee shot just missed crushing chains, so I assume it is in the water behind the green somewhere. It is a clear GSSS Champion Destroyer. Name & PDGA # on inside rim.

Are there any plans to maybe bush hog that area of thorns and find ALL of the lost plastic there, then maybe plant a row of maples or something to still provide a barrier or obstacle, that discs can be found more easily? I still got a red wraith in there, unless someone found it and decided not to return it?

There are a lot of plans in the works, but the prob;em is getting people to help.
Jason, Kevin, Wade, and I were out there all day digging in hole 18's teepad,
and out of the 30 plus people that passed, 0 helped. Remember that the course
is super new and problems such as the shule on 8 will be addressed. It just takes
time.

Atl Scott went in the lake today and retrieved quite a few discs. None of which were Chris Millay's.

All discs with names and numbers have been notified by phone.

One only had an unreadable signature and a PDGA number -- #16348. If anyone knows how to contact Randy Fortenberry let me know.
One had info that was all unreadable but Grease to the rescue knew who the owner was. Andrew Slingshot Jenkins pm me to recover your SE Rhyno.
One person threw into the lake from the long tee while I was swimming and I was able to retreive it and give it back.

That water gets deep fast and I only found one disc close to the edge. Seems like a lot slide too deep to recover without diving.
Chris, sorry buddy. I looked until I was shivering and it took me a couple hours to warm up next to a heater. I think the beavers are stealing your discs and building a dam somewhere...

does anyone know who went diving for discs a month or so ago? I know ATL Scott went in back in february, but I heard rumors that someone else actually went in with dive equipment and pulled a bunch of discs out more recently. I've heard this rumor from several people and I just want to know if anyone has any info. Because unlike Scott, there were no posts about found discs from whoever went out this time, and that is kinda dick. Especially since I know that I have about 8 discs right there :mrgreen:

and they would have to have grabbed at least 1 or 2 off the bottom. I'd happily throw a few bucks retrieval fee for their safe return. So if someone knows which greedy bastard went diving and decided to horde all the discs for themselves, let me know so we can feed them to the beavers.

I offered to do this but never heard back from anyone if that was an option allowed by the park. If it is warm one day next week, like thursday or friday, I will be more than happy to get in dive around a bit, but do not want to deal with the PoPo or county P&R people yelling at me, or with angry fishermen and get hooked! I've only got one lost out there, but am sure I will lose more and I could use to get my scuba equipment wet again.

I haven't lost anything worth diving for since I bought a bunch of $7 dx destroyers. It only took one occurence of losing a valuable disc, for me to realize that cheaper/smarter strategy. Face it, you are going to try to go for it on 17. I will order some more dx destroyers if people like that price. Then next time, just pray you don't take a dive into Millay Bay!

OH, BY THE WAY..... Jason and I are going to be out this sunday 04/19, around noon, doing final prep work on 5 and 18's pads, and some other light course work. The sooner these pads get framed, the sooner we can talk about putting in cement.

I lost an orange Champion Orc on 17 in the water, and then I tried to make up for it, and I lost my Blue Valkerie just off of the bank of 17. My personal info is not on my discs, but the blue Valkerie has "INJN" painted white on top of the disc.

I spoke with Pete @ White Oak on 5/10/09 , and he advised that somebody is going scuba to recover discs @ White Oak. Please let me know if you find my discs.

I was out at White Oak today doing a little practice on #15, and dropped one into the lake. It's a floater, orange lighting #1 Slice. It has pdga #9392 on the back, it may have the name Larry on it, but not sure. A friend let me borrow some discs. I was going to try to wade out to get it, but the water is pretty deep and looked a little funky. There were a couple of other discs floating in the same area. If you happen to pick up the Slice PM me.

I lost a newer Red Beast 150g light weight. I have not put my information on it. I lost it on 12 and I think it drifted left over the hill into the brush. Next time I play a course for the first time I will check the every hole for hazards...

I was throwing around with Wade when I lost my 169 Red Star Destroyer throwing on 15. It was quite windy and it turned over headin towards the lake/island. Looked like it brushed the leaves on the island which barely took enough off of it to fall short of the shore.. Should be right in between the shore and island. If it weren't so cold (and deep) I woulda jumped right in.

Lorelei's first throw of Fright Flight on 17 from the short pad a 150 class purple DX Leopard went straight towards the basket landed about 25 ft away and vanished. We think it hit the root and then rolled into the water between the tree and the basket.

Lorelei's name and PDGA # are on it - reward if returned.

That guy may be telling the truth. I was playing White Oak in September and there were two guys swimming in the lake and they pulled up about 30 discs a piece. They mentioned they were from Alabama and said they call the people who have numbers on discs but ebay the discs without names and numbers. They swam to the other side of the lake near 16 and got a disc for me that I lost the day before. They were pretty good guys, or so it seemed.

I tried getting it again today using my fishing pole tied to a bunch of crankbaits but I still couldn't get it. The hooks kept sliding over the top of the disk. It'll probably be under water by tomorrow :/ Thank you very much for the offer though. Chris was out there trying to help me get it to by throwing rocks and sticks. It looks like some kinda shrine around the disc now.

Lost Star Sidewinder just in the pond on the new 15. It's about 30 feet to the right of the corner of the pond
and about 6 feet out. Couldn't spot it. BTW, if you righties throw on the island, don't depend on the pallets do

I threw a white pro rhyno into the shule yesterday on on right. It's somewhere over in the woods to the right. Couldn't find it. new to the area. making my way around the courses.

lost a blue star beast on 16 at White Oak on 3/10/11. Skipped right off the ground near the basket and hooked into the water near the tree. Not sure how low the water gets during the summer so it may be uncovered when it dries out some...

name and number on the back. 601 area code.

so far a great start to playin the atl area courses....hit it up twice this weekend.

Lost an orange wraith on #13 today, has name and number on it. It is somewhere on the right in the overgrowth that is always an issue off the tee. All four of us landed in it, I am the only one that didn't find his. Searched for a good 45 min and it got too dark to see anymore.

If you want to complain about the overgrowth, then step up and bring a trimmer. just be careful that you avoid cutting into an orange wraith that somebody lost recently.

A few buddies of mines lost discs.

Colin King lost Star Green Wraith right off 17's island also he miss placed a James Robert Warner stamped disc Red while we were warming up.
