Has anyone heard the news of this park being closed due to the state budget?

They quit mowing the grass last April. It's 3 feet high.

Snakes have taken over the fairways. It is almost impossible to play with out getting bitten by a copperhead.

There was a 3 month no cut ban on the disc golf course but it was lifted recently. We were there last week and all the fairways were cut and looked great!

They know about the tourney next month. The issue will not be the fairways. The secondary cut (used to be a secondary cut but now it is schule) is what we need to worry about. Like hole 1 left, 2 left, 5 right, 6 left & right, 9 & 10 left & right, 12 left, 13 left & right, 14 left, 16 left/straight, and 17 left. Lane always used to take care of these areas but since he left it is growing at a rapid pace. The trees that Lane used to cut down between hole 10 & 9 have grown and now come into play more then ever down the the right side of 10.

The ruff will cause backup delays as people will be spending time looking for a shot landing in these black holes. Having a spotter on 16 will really help (spotter can be maybe the last person to tee off in the group). If you annie off of hole 6 make sure you follow it! So watch everyones disk as they head to the schule.

Thanks for the update Jay - and before everyone gets their panties in a wad, I will be going by there Sunday after Toccoa to check things out and as I did last year, I will do whatever I can to make things manageable. If need be I will also go back Labor Day weekend to work on the course if necessary so it will be as ready as possible for the GSSS Event.

Please don't worry about what we can't control with the State budget, and lets just have an enjoyable experience at the Lake as I plan on doing!

At least in 4somes it shouldn't be too time consuming if players use common sense on holes where spotting is crucial.

This part of the message board hasn't had any action in awhile so I thought I would spice it up a little but now I half to worry about the snakes in the fairways that may or may not have taken a plane to get there.

I went out Friday and other than the super shule the main 18 looks great. The woods have grown up so much a couple holes are virtually unpossible.

The park can't afford water jugs this year. So look for the salt lick on hole#9.

We had no problem playing the woods holes. The only thing that change from last year is a few more branches or sticks on the ground.

What holes are you talking about in the woods.

Beautiful day on the course....all day, nice! Time to hit the Lake and do this all over again tomorrow! Any early arrivals Friday in prep for this weekend? Doubles action on Friday?

Made a suggestion this summer to the park to cut all the tall grass down on the sides of the fairways and they did it.Hard to lose a shot now.More enjoyable to play.

Played 4 rounds yesterday.
Grass had been recently mown and the course looked great.
There were some drainage issues in some areas, but hey, it did rain 2 plus inches Saturday...

I just got back from a week at lake russell and the 18 hole course was in great shape. Steve and I cleaned up/de-schuled the woods holes, so they are in good shape. No work was needed on the 18 open holes! Hole 16a needs a chain saw as 2/3 cedar trees fell across the fairway. Mark (The superintendant of the course) is doing an awesome job and will see if they can cut the down trees on 16a up before KJ goes the week before. They are looking forward to the tournament.

I'll be there during one of the days over Labor Day weekend and will give the status report as always.
Hopefully nothing has changed as every year I have less and less to do to the course to get it ready as Mark keeps it up pretty well during the year.

The course is in good shape. The grass could use cutting before the tourney but isn't as high as I have seen it in the past this time of the year.

I got to get some practice in since after Feb I will relegated to just talking about disc golf rather than playing it.

C'mon I got 4 kids and I get to play once every 2 weeks and maybe 3 tournaments a year! You'll have just 1. Plus it'll be February so it wont be so hot when you leave it in the golfcourse parking lot :roll:
