Workday for 2010 AO Saturday April 3rd

Postby Funky Bobby J » Mon Mar 15, 2010 9:18 am

There will be a Central Park workday on Saturday April 3rd at 9:30 a.m. in support of the Atlanta Open. Meet at the practice basket with trimmers, pruners, chain saws, limb saws, hand tamps, rakes, shovels, etc. Dave Kenney will be organizing efforts to get the course ready for the tournament. If time and help allows, we may do some clearing on a hole or two for potential new pin placements. The primary focus is on cleaning up fairways & such for the AO.

If you have questions, please pm myself or Dave Kenney. Thanks for your help and support in advance.

HOOORAY WORK DAY!!!!!

I will be there unless something randomly shitty comes up on that day. Maybe we can put something up in the bulletin board and do something like everyone that comes out and helps gets a raffle ticket that goes toward one or a few discs to be given away??? Something to get more then the usual 3-4 peeps out.

Thanks FBJ and Dave for the continuing efforts to make CP better!

Thanks for posting to the FB page Brett

I'll definitely post something on the bulletin board. I like the raffle idea. I'll check the plastic at home - I think that I got some cool stuff that i could donate.

What kind of plastic do we may possibly have up for grabs??

And do any of you pros (or masters players) care to tell me why you want to play in the Atlanta Open? It's for another school assignment. Things in particular, what draws you to this tournament, competition level, course opinions, where the tournament is going...etc. You can pm me here or any of the emails in my signature down below is a good way to reach me. Preciate it.

I know it is a holiday weekend, but we really need a good crowd out. If you play Central, come out (even for an hour or two) and pitch in. I have not pulled any plastic yet. I will try to give the discs to Dave Kenney for a giveaway for those that attend.

I'll be up there tomorrow after work to go over the ENTIRE layout for the AO over again to make sure I haven't forgotten anything to put down to cover for the workday.
1 thing for sure is to get/findin the woods/buy a decent sized tree to put in the area between the red and blue pads on 12D as some smartasses keep taking the stuff I put there temporarily down and it opens up an UNWANTED hyzer line that throws over 12C basket area.

Cody, Dave, and Wes have the list of stuff that needs to be taken care of and I'll email them all again with anything else I find tomorrow.

THANKS IN ADVANCE to all who are helping - I'll be in South Carolina caddying for Lorelei while she plays in Sarah Stanhope's Junior Event.

I will continue to go up there during the weeknights after work to make sure that the place is sparkling for the players at the AO!

Hole 1-2 has the OB line area cleared all the way from #1 basket to the #2 basket -it just needs to have those ball bearings blown off to the side to make the fairway neat and clean - PLEASE DO NOT CUT any more along the string line area - the stuff left is for strategic purposes and you can now look down the OB line from end to end without any obstructions.

To add to what Bob is handing out - I will get the names from DAVE K of any one who is there helping for OVER 2 hours and reward them with some nice stuff from one of the 2 new sponsors of the GSSS.

Thanks again to anyone helping to get Central ready for the first of 2 A-Tier Events 5 months apart which will put the ATL Area on the countries radar for GREAT events.

Good times! Awesome crew. Good to meet some faces to put with names. AO layout is ridiculous. Good to come out and throw some elbow grease into one of the amazing parks we get to play for free all the time.

How many guys did you get? My kids fared fairly well in NC. Anna won her first tournament. Graham was the youngest in his division of 12 and finished 5th. Griffin schuled out the tourney but crushed a drive in the long drive contest and threw farther than everyone except Josh Woodall... Thanks to everyone who showed up. I will do a trash pick up and paint tree stumps lurking in the fairways.

Workday stuff looked good - everything was looking good and the only thing left to do is blow the ball bearings off hole 1-2.

Hole 4 Blue teepad redo is a HUGE improvement, and Hole 9 Blue teepad extension and levelling is also extremely nice.

Today I planted 5 large trees on 12Dand I left a 5 gallon bucket by the red teepad, so if people playing through that play there all the time can please water those 5 new trees and the 6 cypress trees on 12C with water from the creek a couple times a week - it would be a HUGE help and it would help them grow nice and big faster.

12 mostly 950+ rated players played the A/O layout today and enjoyed the new tweaks to the design.

Thanks for the feedback,
Keith

I know everyone is crazy busy with the event, and I don't care myself personally as helping out a course I play for free alot seems like peanuts compared to what work you guys put in on the regular. BUT one of the newbs I drug out for the day keeps bugging me as to if this is still happening. Thanks.

Appreciate it. Just make it for 1 person. I really don't want payment for helping out on a course.

I am not going to say I want it either, but if you feel as if you want to, then just let me know. Either way, helping out my home DG course is what I do even if it spits at me during tournies.
