Perkerson Install Workdays -- every Saturday @ 10am.

We are cleared to start working on the wooded holes.

Workdays will be held EVERY Saturday from 9am-1pm in January & February. Goal is to have the holes cleared in time for the sanctioned Ice Bowl Tourney on 2/26/2012. In the event of inclement weather on Saturday the workday may be moved to Sunday, but I'll post here in advance -- so check if it's going to be cold and rainy/snowy.

Feel free to come out to one/all ... bring cutting tools as we'll be focused on tree/shrub removal for 4 of the wooded holes. Tools will be provided if you don't have them.

Know that each hour of volunteered labor is tracked and counts for $20 to secure grant $$ for course installation. So by working for 4 hours you are realistically donating $80 to the course fund.

No worries -- nobody else showed up either day, which was fine because I need the time to finalize the layout. I'm still waiting on the city to give me final approval on where exactly we can/can't go before its 100% finalized, but getting close. There is still plenty of privet we can cut out right now.

Going to stick with weekend workdays from now on. On that note, I'd like to schedule a workday for this upcoming long weekend.
Sat 12/31/11 -- 9:00am-1pm. Grilled lunch and beer will be provided @1pm for people who help out. Goal for the day is to cut down all of the privet in the wooded area.

Everybody keep in mind that the deal we've struck with the city to get a permanent course is that the city purchased the baskets, but the installation/teepads/signage is 100% on the disc golf community ... so if you can help out, or have ever wanted to help out, come to a workday.

The first few workdays will be cutting trees ... progressing to pouring teepads fairly quickly.

Next on agenda is continuing to clear out privet. We cleared one area today and have another much larger area to go.

Focus will be privet removal in the wooded area, so bring gloves and cutting tools: small saw, chainsaw, pruning shears, machete, etc.

Park Pride will be hosting a workday @ Perkerson on MLK day Monday 1/16. They are expecting 50 to 100 people (wow!). Anybody from our group that is interested in helping direct them is encouraged to attend, as I won't be able to be there.

Big thanks to everyone that came out today, and especially to the Park Pride guys. We doubled attendance to ~10 people and made some serious progress with clearing privet.

There will be a standing workday every Saturday @ 9am - 1pm through the end of February. Bring work gloves and cutting tools, meet in the gravel lot. We'll have extra tools each time if needed. If the weather is bad on Saturday, we'll likely reschedule to Sunday, with updates posted here and on Facebook.

Your time is valuable, but now we can put a figure on it -- each hour of volunteer labor counts for $20 towards raising matching funds for the course. There is a strong chance that we'll be able to leverage all of the volunteer time to secure significant grant $$ of up to $20,000 to install the course.

Look at all of those lonely tools, needing some volunteers this Saturday. This Saturday is Georgia Tech student/alumni volunteer day, with 8 GT volunteers already confirmed. Last Saturday we raised $720 with 9 volunteers ... we're trying to double that this week and raise $1,500, but we'll need 19 volunteers to get there.

Another reason to come out Saturday: we're getting closer to an approved layout. Today we finally (after waiting 7 weeks) got the green light to move forward on this proposed layout, which will get us to at least par 60 and ~7,000 feet. I say at least because #6-7 and #10-13 are rough right now, they will be in that area, but not firmed up yet. #1-5 are pretty firm, as are #14-18. #8 is mostly cut out already from the past 3 weekends and will be a tough dual-fairway par 4.

We can now start cutting out fairways and will be installing sleeves soon ...

Light turnout today but we got #10 par 4 nearly completely cut out and looking like a hole.

All 19 baskets (18 + practice) are now permanently installed at the course. It's not officially open yet, and some of the holes still need to be cut out of the woods, but I did see some people out playing today (while we were working).

We should have a loop of holes 1-5 playable soon, and holes 10-18 not far behind. Temporary signage and carpet teepads coming within the next month, shooting for permanent signage and dual concrete teepads by summertime.

Still very much in need of volunteer labor. Next workday is Sunday 3/11 @ 1pm, if you come out bring your own tools (saw & gloves).

Got another hole playable today, but very weak turnout with the same 4 people that have been coming out. Really, really need help. We have been named finalists for the large potential grant and want to be able to take full advantage of the money that is available by matching against volunteer hours.

There will be workdays every weekend this month. I'll keep updating this thread with times. If you can't make a weekend workday but could get out there at another time, PM me -- there is plenty of work to do.

There is also a workday next Thursday 3/22. Time is TBD, GT Chris will post as he is leading it. For all of you who want to help out but can't make it on weekends, this is for you. We'll be continuing to clear the woods holes, and possibly leveling out some teepads and pouring pin locations.

Upcoming workday schedule:

Tomorrow(thursday 3/22): 4pm-7:30pm

Saturday 3/24: 1pm-5pm

Bring tools: need cutting tools (small trees, thorns, long grass) and digging tools for setting teepads. Focus for now is on making the playable holes more playable.

Waiting on final approval to tweak the design on ~6 holes and then we'll be moving on those too. Really, really liking the newly tweaked layout which will be slightly shorter (par 59, 7300') but more fun and safer.

Standing workday time starting this weekend will be Saturdays @ 10am, lasting until ~2pm. For those interested, arrive early @ 8am to play the course before the workday. Bring your own tools (digging tools & cutting tools) and gloves. If the weather is really bad on Saturday and clear on Sunday, we'll change it to Sunday and I'll post an update here.

There is tons of work to do and we're turning in a grant proposal this week that will require 1,000 man hours of volunteer work to get adequate funding (we have ~660 hours since Jan 1st).
