Yesterday someone set off a model rocket at Alexander Park. This caused a fire which consumed 4-5 acres of the brush near the big tree. Fortunately, no one was hurt and the tree looks like it wasn't damaged. The fire stayed on that side of the path and no area of the Disc Golf course was affected.
The best view of the burned area is from Scenic Highway (124). It isn't visible from the parking lot.
Ted Scartz was arrested, hopefully reminding the community that model rocketry is not legal in Gwinnett parks.
