Alexander Park, at the intersection of Hwy 124 and Sugarloaf Parkway, is progressing right on schedule for next springs opening. Ryan Harris, the landscape architect for the course, told me that the holes in the woods have been cleared and they have staked locations for tee pads and baskets. Several GDGO board members are meeting him later this month for a walk-through and I'll post an update after that.

I was in the area of this park on Saturday. I stopped and did a brief walk around of the land. It looks like it will be a great spot. Of course, I had no clue what else would be going into the park. Thanks for the updates.

Today I walked the course with Ryan and adjusted tee and basket placements. Things are looking pretty good so far. The last step for us it to verify the tree placements when they add them. I'm not sure when that will be, presumably after the new year, though. I'm told things are on schedule for a March-ish opening.

Here is a GDGO update on Alexander from Mike Curtis:

Ed, Vicki, and I were fortunate enough to be invited to tour the Alexander Park Disc Golf course last weekend. I thought I'd take a few minutes and give you my impressions.

In one word, wow!

This is going to be a great addition to the Atlanta disc golf scene.

We were met by Ryan Harris of McFarland and Dyer Corporation. Ryan is a developer and avid disc golfer. Ryan spent about 2 hours with us walking the entire course hole by hole. Ryan has designed this course with both skill and fun in mind. Each hole has an advanced and beginner tee. The tees will be trapezoidal, narrow at the front and wide at the back. Each hole (with the exception of one (i can't remember which one)) will have three basket locations. The course has a lot of tree play, narrow fairways and a water hazard. There is a good mix of into and out of trees. The course also includes a fair mix of lefty and righty holes. Elevation changes are evident throughout. The course is long. Take some water and snacks!

I really think this is going to be a world class course. I can see it attracting any number of tournaments throughout the year.

The current plan calls for teepads going in in the next few weeks. Ryan tells us he still has a fair amount of landscaping to do including additional trees and shrubs to tighten up the open fairways and some mulching of the fairways. Opening of the course is currently slated for this March.

I walked the trails at Alexander last weekend and am really excited about the course. The wooded fairways look extremely tight which will nicely contrast the more open holes. I saw where the tees have been dug out and was wondering what kind of tees (mulch, gravel, etc) and catchers are planned for the course. Good work and kudos again to everyone who has contributed to the development.

Yes, this will be a challenging and fun course on a beautiful piece of property.
The 12 foot long tee pads will be concrete. The baskets will be DISCatchers.
This will truly be a Championship course

I'm estimating distance, I could be way off...

Hole #17 Blue Tee. This is the premiere hole on the course. It plays slightly downhill and is about 530' to the C Pin position. There is water on the left from about 160' to about 330' from the tee extending toward the A pin position, which can be seen to the right of the bare trees surrounding the hazard.

Course Length is 5,356'.
I don't have individual hole measurements yet, but the Average Hole Length is 298'.
Shortest Hole is 163'.
Longest Hole is 528'.
Par is 57.

All trees have now been planted (to tighten fairways and make putts more challenging). The first tee pad has been poured and when the weather is right the rest will go in. The DISCatchers have been ordered and paid for. The county is looking for a March opening, and.......

The GDGO will be hosting a one day Grand Opening casual tournament on April 18th.....details soon to come!

This is Ryan Harris, I work for McFarland-Dyer and Associates. I co-designed Alexander Park Disc Golf Course with Doug Porter. This was my first DG course design job, and it has been the most fun and interesting project I have worked on since I graduated UGA in '06. I think Doug and I have created a great course that will challenge people of all ages for years to come.

When we first walked the property, Doug and I saw much potential in the rolling, open farm land which would comprise about half of the course. As we began exploring the wooded areas that would make up the other half of the course, we found interesting configurations and features that should make challenging and memorable holes.

Unfortunately, from the beginning we struggled with the relationship of the course to the walking trails. We had to envision these wooded areas with two winding 12' wide paths, and with holes that safely played away from the trails. There were a few areas that would have made GREAT holes, but we had to let them go in order for the trails to go through the space.

We carefully studied the course routing, balance of lefty vs. righty holes, and the mix of wooded vs. open holes. Thanks to Gwinnett County SPLOST, we were able to employ some of the best elements available on the course. Concrete trapezoidal tee-pads, Disc-catcher pro targets, 2" caliper trees, (which means 8-15' tall obstacles when planted) multiple benches, and a great signage package will make this a first class course.

As the construction of the park and DG course has progressed, it has been awesome watching our design come to life. I did an inspection of the course on Friday 1-23, and here is an UPDATE:

- Half of the tee pads have been poured and they look awesome. The other half should be poured this week, weather permitting.
- All trees on the course have been planted. We designed 100+ trees for the open holes and they really make the difference. They are small obstacles for now, but many of the oaks and magnolias will be 60'-80' tall someday.
- The baskets have been ordered, but the basket sleeves have not been installed yet.
- Most of the clearing on the woods holes has been done, but some fine tuning will still need to happen before opening.
- Park opening is still scheduled for March. Many things can change this, so we shall see...

I will keep the updates coming, and I'm sure Vicki will as well. I hope everyone enjoys the course and I look forward to seeing you out there. Try to stay off the property until opening if you can resist. It will make opening day that much better.

I was there yesterday with Doug Porter and Ryan Harris, the landscape design architect.

All of the tee pads are in. The signage for the course has been ordered and looks real cool. Time was spent tweaking pin positions, marking walkways to next tee, and light brush clearing. The GDGO is going to have to do a work day before the course opens to clear what the contractor misses. Both Ryan & Doug encouraged the GDGO to make this course "the way we want it" by clearing any trees, branches, brush, etc. that interfere with play. We were also encouraged to make additional pin placements for future tweaking...

What great ideas! I definitely think all volunteers should play that day; it's part of our jobs to make sure everything is in working order isn't it?

I'm thinking the little nook next to 15's tee pad for the tiki bar Vern. Maybe the swizzle sticks have could have little discs on top of them instead of umbrellas?

The tournament date has been changed to May 3rd. The GDGO held our first tournament to celebrate the new Lenora baskets on that day one year ago, and we'd like to uphold tradition. The flyer will be posted soon.

Beautiful walking path in park with two pretty lake (once the mud settles, don't mention the muddy water)

Excellent shopping at the Avenues at Hwy 124 & Web Ginn Road - 1 mile away

Good schools - AC Crews Middle and Brookwood High

Gwinnett County Fairgrounds just down the road

The workday has been scheduled for March 15th at 1 pm.

All volunteers are encouraged to bring their gloves and rakes (like splash) and trimmers, and a bag of your favorite plastic as we'll need to test those chains!

The County has strongly requested that people refrain from going on the site until the park officially opens; this is your only (legal) preview!

Everyone please come out and help us fine tune this gorgeous new disc golf park as we get ready for the Alexander Aerial Armada!

Went to Alexander this afternoon.

All of the baskets are on site. The signs have not yet arrived. 24 sleeves have been installed, all should be complete by tomorrow, Friday.

The GDGO work day is scheduled for Sunday, March 15 at 1pm. There is not a ton of work to do, but there's enough for 10-12 to knock out rather easily. Bring hand tools if you have them, pole saws, machetes, hatchets, etc. Power tools will be provided.

Since we don't want too large a crowd (although they expect us, limited numbers is desired), please clear with me your intent to show and if the number gets too high, well, sorry...

There is a VERY remote chance we'll get to play a round when we're done... but we'd have to put all of the baskets back. I hinted at this with the site foreman, but it HAS NOT BEEN ARRANGED. I'll try to work it out...

Again, PM me if you want to help out. The first 8-10 are guaranteed.

A Park and Recreation representative said the contractors are a week or two behind at this point, but they are still expecting an early to mid April opening. Baskets will not go up until they are about ready to open.

I talked to my PM on the project last week and the contractor has set the opening day for the park for May 16th. I know its a further back than originally expected, but thats the way these things go. And as previously mentioned, weather or other variables could further delay the opening. Lets hope they get it done soon!

Due to the weather forecast for tomorrow, we are postponing workday until Saturday April 25th at 1 pm.
This will also give the County more time to clear the barbed wire, a task I'd rather them do than us.

Also, due to circumstances beyond our control we must re-schedule the Alexander Aerial Armada for June 27, 2009. Chris Albers will be posting a notice about this on the tournament thread. I really hope everyone can make the new tournament day!

My son and i have been watching the park and the course take shape with great anticipation as we have driven by the course on the way to and from the YMCA. Recently i noticed that the baskets have gone in which has made me want to go over and "give her a go". But some of my friends who ran in the park recently were run off by the police for tresspassing. Has the county actually named a firm date that the park will be open and the course available for play? With th economy in the shape it is in this is a great nearby cheap fun family activity.

Unfortunately, the county does not have a firm date for opening. Weather delays, contractor delays, etc. have moved the date several times. I agree that putting the baskets out seems like an invitation to come play, but that is the contractors work not Gwinnett County's. It is frustrating, but I'm learning not to question all the "why can't we do it THIS way?"s in my mind and just wait for June 27 as Gwinnett County has promised that is a firm date for our tournament. And what an incredible park we'll have to play in then!!!

If any discers just can't wait until June to play, please be careful out there (there is still a lot of barbed wire) and if you are asked to leave please remain courteous. The GDGO has worked hard to develop a working relationship with Gwinnett County, and we only want this to get stronger and go in a positive direction.

Harold, I agree that Disc Golf is a wonderful, cheap, fun family activity! Have you and your son registered for the tournament? Does your wife play?

Vicki, I have been playing at ALEXANDER about twice a week and have talked to the workers and have also seen other people working and walking the park and I have not been told to leave yet, it may also be that I have been doing a little work here and there including a pile of branches that were cut down and not moved. Others have been out there with me and we try to do a little at a time including a more defined path to hole 6. I have one problem and that is the "next tee" signs are too close the baskets on several holes. How do we correct this before they are set. The workers who are digging the holes for the benches and signs said they dig where the markers are and this could be a big problem. Hole 12 the sign is 6-8 feet from the basket on the right side I moved that to about 20 feet behind the basket where the path to the next hole starts. Maybe a walk through on Sunday or Monday to make sure the signs dont become part of the playing area :wink:

I will be going back out Monday to do more cleaning, do we need to pull all the dead debris out and make piles for the county to pick up? I cant make clean up days but Monday is usually my free day. Let me know. My low score is 51 so far, and a very nice course cant wait for the silt fences to come down.

P.S. I can pull the barb wire just tell me which holes or all the holes (6?)

Jason, your positive attitude and volunteer spirit are much appreciated. I'm just trying to keep peace with Gwinnett County by following their rules. The project manager at Alexander was friendly and helpful when the GDGO Board met him earlier this month and I agree that doing course work while you play is the best way to go about it.

Here is the To Do list for Alexander (courtesy of Steve Adams):

Hole 3: Clear limbs, barbed wire, and debris from area around Basket A. Clear walking path to #4 teepad

Hole 5: Clear limbs and debris on fairway

Hole 6: Clear aerial limbs/debris that is hanging in fairway. Clear barb wire to the left side of the greens area. More fencing between the greens of #4 and #6; again on the walking path from #6 green to #7 teepad

Hole 8: Barb wire on right and left sides of fairway

Hole 9: Clear a walking path from #8 green to #9 tee pad. Clear branches from the back of #9 blue tee pad

Hole 10: Barb wire on the left and right side of this hole at the beginning of the tree line (where the green area begins)

Hole 11: Vines on the right side of the fairway need to come down. Barb wire on the left by the crooked tree. Clear brush around Basket A

Hole 13: Clear Debris in the fairway

Hole 14: Clear debris behind Basket A - currently approx 5-10 feet available behind the basket

Hole 15: Clear and level the area around Basket A

Hole 16: Barb wire on the left and right sides of the Blue tee pad area.

I'll ask Ryan Harris (landscape architect for project) about the Next Tee sign locations.
We tied yellow plastic around barb wire to make it easier to find.

As far as the 'next tee' signs go, I will take some time this week to place the stakes in their correct locations. The signs have specific arrow directions, so they will need to pretty much be perfect.

Barbed wire removal is in the Contractor's scope of work. I recommend we let them do it. I think flagging the barbed wire is a good idea. At some point I will probably do a walk through with the contractor to point out issues that need to be addressed on the course.

As far as playing/working before the opening....I have to say what I have to say, and that is that the park is still a working construction site. No one should really be on the site except for workers because it is a liability for the contractor. I met with the contractor and the project manager last week and we talked about people playing the course. They said that the course is out of the way of the current construction, but people playing the course bothers them a little bit. They specifically said the big groups of people were troublesome. So if anyone asks you to leave, kindly do so. If you must go play the course, do it after the workers leave, or go play on the weekends. Going out there mid-day on a work-day shows little respect to the contractors who are building this wonderful park for us.

It will be open soon enough. I personally can't wait, but lets try to not piss anyone off and try to establish a good relationship with the authorities that are in place until the park opens.

I understand fully, by word of mouth I have been hearing that it is totally off limits, but have not seen anything posted here to back it up other than leave if asked to leave. I am unemployed and go to school only two days a week. I would like to help get this course ready and feel that things I can do now will help in the long run, even if it means bringing no disks out and just working for an hour or two. Send me to work there with what you see needs to be done. I do have another concerian, the path from hole 17 basket to 18 pad. Do you have an idea where to cut the path through, I am willing to cut it in. I work cheap(free :lol:

) Also down tree branches, should I move those to the open areas for pick up like started on hole 5, (do I need a hard hat

)

Speaking from a contractors perspective it is very unsafe and not very understanding if folks keep going out there on a "working construction site". Ryan is right about the liability standpoint. Why can't ya'll just follow their wishes and stay out of the park till they are finished? I understand that everyone wants to help but the course/park isn't going away once they are done and there will be lots and lots of time over the next 10 years to get the little extras taken care of. Just speaking from experience as a Superintendent in the construction world.

Wookie I dont mean to be rude but, there is not a whole lot of work going on, on the disc golf side. I believe it is jealousy towards the un-employed and very bored disc golfers :lol:

Ah what am i saying, I like starting issues. If they dont want anyone out there till it opens maybe some more no trepassing signs other than the one directly in front of the contractors building. I take it as no tresspassing in their direct work area, not the whole park. Its not just the disc golfers it is also the neighbor hoods surrounding the park like walkers, joggers, people doing the dirty deed in the field :roll:

Why put out the baskets so early? And the liabilty will rest with the park after the work is over.

I will take care of the connecting trails. It is in the contractors scope, and I know where I want them, so lets let them do the work they are contracted to do. There is still active construction within the course and there will be untill the opening (signage, more benches, more clearing). We should keep note of areas that need to be cleaned up (thanks Vicki!) and then really try to have a productive workday next month.

Duely noted. If I play anymore, I will only play weekends and clean fairways and trails of sticks and branches as I go. I was the one with the severely wind aided drive on Hole 1 Sunday. I saw one other group out there Sunday. It just seems that once a disc golfer sees baskets, he goes into a trance like a kid in a candy store. I am sure that I can keep a low profile and not hinder anyone's progress. Vicki, you have a very beautiful course in the making. I am sure that you will be proud of its standing amongst the other parks in the area. A mix of the best of Redan and Lenora--a Riverview Jr. See you on clean up day. :mrgreen:

Would you go on a construction site that wasn't completed just because you saw people in there working or they had their sign up at the road or what not. There only has to be 1 No Trespassing sign because you aren't supposed to be there. It doesn't matter if it's the weekend or not. If you get hurt it is on the contractors liability because it is his site till he turns it over. I don't see why that's so hard to understand. I guess all us disc golfers are pretty hard headed and can turn any situation into a what if and "I was only trying to help", and there were other folks doing it. Like my dad always asked, "if everyone jumps off a tall building would you do it too?"

I just know from experience that it is not safe to have folks on an active construction site, I don't care how big the site is or where the work is going on. I guess I just take this kind of serious.

I'm done. I will play it again once the park opens. It's not worth it to post back and forth about ethics. We can all enjoy the course once it is open. Those that choose to go out and play or clean up or whatever aren't swinging on the equipment or messing with the tee signs or benches. I appreciate Jason's efforts to make the park nicer when it opens, and I will be happy to see it again in May or June or whenever it opens.

Just call me devils advocate. This is not a normal Job Site, 95% of the work being done is on the other side of the course by boarder jumpers(illegals or if your the PC type non-residents)and yes I would jump off the building too, but I will be the one with the hang glider. Today I cleared a big area of hole 3 and 5 of debris and DID NOT PLAY GOLF, wow. And I hate to say this again, 1 sign of no tresspassing at the parking lot entrance is about retarded as a football bat, there are other ways into the park besides driving into the parking lot(where the ONLY sign is). Just look down the road past the park and there is a fence with no tresspassing signs every 50 feet. There are several neighbor hoods where people dont have to drive past 1sign to get in. I have worked job sites also and we put signs and tape up to make sure people know DO NOT ENTER I am just saying that there have been to many problems on weather or not we can be out there period. Ryan if you read this I believe that you might be the one to give a definitive NO to going out there and people would follow. I cant do weekends for cleanup only weekdays and I would like to do more but if you say no I will not question. And vern I need to see your permit to write permits or it will cost you 40% of your take :mrgreen:

I am also going to not play the course until it officially opens. It is hard to not go out and play on weekends when you know no one is working, but I think it would be in everyone's best interest to stay off the property until the opening. I know other people will still go until they are told otherwise, but the less people the better.

Signs start to go in this week and the benches are nice! Only a few more weeks guys, then its open forever.

Why are you trying to be rude Randy? I have always liked playing disc golf with you, and I do love Redan. I have been playing at Redan since about the time it opened. I have had one car broken into. I was with Dennis Ogle when his truck was broken into. I am sure you read the post about the guy being held up at gun point out there. I have nothing bad to say about the layout or any of the people who play there. It was my home park for quite a few years. I am sorry that you think that I was dissing Redan, but I wasn't. I was just trying to get our minds on naming the new Action and anticpating playing at the new park.

Its not Redan that is the problem its the thug Obamatrons(lazy POS's that would rather steal than work) that have made the course worse. Look at all the spray paint on the tee pads and signs, broken bottles on the tee pads, bullet holes(almost) in the sign on hole one, the broken brooms, for every step foward, thugs bring it 3 steps back. If Redan were in a better area is all I am saying. I have never been broken into but have seen enough that it is only a matter of time. Why take chances.

No doubt there are some issues with cars being broken into at Redan. However, in the 3 years I've been attending P'nut doubles, I am not aware of someone having a break-in occur during Sunday morning P'nut doubles (someone correct me if I'm mistaken). I'm also not sure the report of the person being robbed on hole #15 was ever determined to be factual. I am certainly more cautious about going to Redan during times when there might be a limited number of players at the course (e.g. weekday afternoons).
Redan is still one of the most beatiful DG courses in the metro area. It has a great mix of open and wooded holes. Lots of fun to play. I certainly look forward to playing Alexander once it officially opens, and would like to see some doubles action going there. I'm not sure it needs to replace P'nut doubles at Redan...at least not until P'nut decides to give his doubles a new home. Maybe P'nut will see fit to hold a couple of Inauguration rounds at Alexander once it opens (HINT, HINT, HINT). :mrgreen:

I could not agree more. I never said that Redan was not a beautiful park. Along with Pendleton King in Augusta, I believe that Redan is one of the most beautiful courses in Georgia. You can't beat it for neatly manicured fairways and breathtaking landscape. In addition, I think that the regulars do a great job of maintaining the course. I was once a regular there myself, and I have enjoyed playing the park for years. I do not think the any doubles should be moved from any course. I think that whenever doubles is held at The Alex will be fine. As far as breakins, as I said before, no park is totally safe. There have been issues in the past, but that shouldn't stop anyone from going to Redan. It is a must play for anyone who wants a challenging, fun course to play. Just as some regulars have said, taking the proper precautions, such as not leaving anything of value in plain sight and keeping an eye out for suspicious characters, should ensure that nothing unforeseen will happen. Maybe in my enthusiasm for the new park, I may have stepped on some toes. I assure you that I meant no disrespect. Now, we have three parks within a short distance from each other. How cool is that?

Steve, Rob K. and Wes Mattews both have been broken into at a sunday Dubs and I know there has been more. This usually happens when ther are alot of cars for the thugs to go through. It happens. The robbery I am unsure of also, but I am not taking chances. I will still go to Redan but will go to Alexander more. Just think of how many people went to sunday dubs 10 years ago and how many now. Every time a new course opens people who live close by prefer to go to the closer one. When was the last time you saw 20+ people at Redan for sunday dubs, it seems to only be about 10-12 now. I notice that the open players are not coming up as often.

That guy did get robbed..... he came out to Perkerson and told us about it. The thug had a .22 caliber single shot (pea-shooter) and was roaming all around the course looking for trouble.... basically a crack head that was jonesin for another score.

I carry when I go to Redan now... and I know that won't stop my car from being broken into, but at least I'll still have my wallet and keys when I get back to the vehicle. 15 years of playing at Redan and no problems.... but like Jason said "it's only a matter of time".

Key issue: Be prepared..... or go to another park (with the same chances of vandalism with +/- %)

Keep Redan alive!!!!! but don't stop making new courses either!!!

Think about it..... 3 courses within 20 minutes from each other

Sounds like a day long course excursion!!!

it was a guy from Utah.... he said the thug was really stupid and didn't seem to know too much. I think it was some stupid kid that was wanting some easy cash...there wasn't a gang...just one guy.

I am looking to get a lighter carry gun but for now, I have a .380 caliber.... not as much takedown as a .40 cal, but enough to get the point across.

Evidently the guy was just hanging out when the golfers walked up....and decided to take a chance of robbing them. The guy that got robbed wasn't scared and almost made a effort to take the thug down...but he said that he didn't want to risk getting shot although he didn't think the thug was capable of even hitting a target 10 feet away. A 1.5" barrel makes for some hard aiming.... but I don't think we have this problem :wink:

While playing at East Roswell today, I met a golfer who said that he tried to play The Alex Saturday. He was approached by Gwinnet 5-O, told to leave. The park was not open. As I said, there are plenty of courses to play around here. My nephew and I played three this weekend (Lenora, Yargo, and ERP). Having been someone who has played The Alex illegally, I just wanted to pass the word, that they are actually enforcing the "No Tresspassing" now. I will be honing my skills at the other parks, eagerly awaiting the park to open.

Having been someone who has played The Alex illegally, I just wanted to pass the word, that they are actually enforcing the "No Tresspassing" now. I will be honing my skills at the other parks, eagerly awaiting the park to open.

I drove by there also & saw them. I gave a holler from the road to some dg'rs on 5 and they left. I hung around to see what the cops would do... it started out as just one unit, but after about 10 minutes, a second unit showed up. They went in a little toward the playground, but I did not see them go to the dg course. They told two families to leave, one was at the playground, the other was walking dogs on the path. This was between 4:30p-5p. I did not see them issue any citations, but i only watched for about 20 min. They were still there when I left.

Is there a confirmed date for the course to open? There have been ALOT of peolpe playing out there lately (i drive by the course at least 2 times a day) and I had to warn a couple of Barneys about parking in the parks parking lot and there have also been some cars parking directly along the shoulder near the course by Hole 5. I also know of hole 15 being aced but will keep his Identy a secret.

Not all the baskets just a couple off Old Snellvile Hwy (main entrance to park) but no bags from the 124 side. They just bagged the ones peolpe start on.

According to thye Parks and Recreation department, Alexander Park is not scheduled to open until June 13. Does anyone know anything different. I am chomping at the bit to play but am concerned that if people keep trying to play before the park is open, we will start off giving the wrong message for our sport.

Although most would call me a hypocite, seeing as I played it early on before the park officials and a few future regulars put up the big stop sign, I feel that you should wait. I have been playing Yargo and ERP alot while waiting for opening day. There will be plenty of time to play once it is open. We will have plenty of time to show Gwinnett County how much we love the park by our patronage and upkeep of the course once it is legal to play there.

Regarding Alexander Park Workday (from Chris A.):

Please pass this on, as I am not near a computer.

The GDGO does NOT have permission to conduct a clean up day at Alexander Park because we do not possess liability insurance. That is the word from the owner of the construction company.

Sorry, I did my best.

So the work day is off for this weekend. Bummer. Looks like we have wait until the park is handed over to the county. Hopefully there will be a weekend before the AAA tourney that we can re-schedule the work day. Thanks for trying Chris...

Breaking News!
Chris Albers just got word that we have been APPROVED to hold workday tomorrow.
He will sign papers with the General Contractor tomorrow morning.
Workday will be begin promptly at 10 am.

Here's an Alexander Update: Five of us showed up for workday last Sunday (with a signed release from the contractor). We pulled vines, lopped branches, and didn't even play that much anticipated round as we were too exhausted. The course is going to be absolutely beautiful when it opens in June.

I emailed our Gwinnett County Volunteer Coordinator, Kim Shealey, several questions about Alexander and this is her response:

1. What is the official opening date for the park? June 13 will be the grand opening-we would love GDGO to be on board with demos-the give away is a frisbee!
2. Will all of the barbed wire and silt fencing be taken away by tournament day? The barbed wire and silt fencing should be removed as in our contract with the vendor-but as you know he has not really held up his end of the bargain. If he doesn't remove it I will have the park crew that just recently was assigned to the project remove it.

She also wrote:

I have noticed several players on the course and recognize them as being members of GDGO-please remind your members that the park is closed and not ready for operations-it also is not safe-just check out the giant grass stand. We have asked the contractor to remove the baskets, to prevent play, before they leave on their own-but he has not and he will be the one to absorb the cost if they are "borrowed" from the park.

Please Please Please Fellow Discers: Do not give the County any reason to dislike discers. As of right now they are pro disc golf, let's keep it that way!

I think it is unfair that GDGO gets the blame for those who are playing the course since I do not think any of those playing are members of the GDGO.

You're a good man Dollar! Have you signed up for the tournament yet? Even though it's not PDGA registered it's still gonna be a fun day and you should see the cool trophies for the winners (plus of course cash for the pros).

Last time we drove by it was on the sign still and they were repaving the entrance area.

Does anyone know what pin position is going to be used? How often is it going to be changed?

June 13th is the firm date for Opening Day

The county has asked the GDGO to be there; we'll have a couple of portable baskets set up for demos and games and the county has frisbees for giveaways. After that we'll play a highly anticipated round of doubles!

As soon as I get the schedule, I'll post times.

Pin positions will remain where they currently are. Discussion is under way about how often they'll be changed.

There was no slight intended Bill and Christy; I apologize if one was taken. My brain is so focused on the upcoming tournament that I was meaning there will be no basket location change from Opening Day to Tournament Day.

Could someone who is familiar with the current pin positions please post them, as I've only been there once since the baskets went in.

Hey Guys,

Its Ryan with a different username, been having trouble remembering passwords...

I walked the entire course yesterday compiling a list of final items to be addressed. (barbed wire, vines, debris piles) The course is looking great! There are a couple holes they have let get a little overgrown, but for the most part the woods holes are smooth and mulched. All benches and signs are in and they are looking good too. (other than the fact that the signs are the new hip bird toilets...) Most if not all of the planted trees are showing signs of new growth, so the obstacles are already getting bigger. Better get those low scores before it all grows in...

They have moved all but 2 of the baskets to the A position. We are telling them to put those 2 in the A location. The positions have changed a bit from the original map, but it is more or less the same. Lets hope they get everything done for opening day! Ill see yall out there next Saturday.

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony is at 10 am, then a couple of hours for demos, contest, etc. Does doubles at 12 noon sound good?
