Trying to Raise $5,000 for the Sullivan Center. Total pledged so far: $700 (does not include merch sales or registration fees)

All divisions $27; entry fee includes players pack, lunch and pimp trophy for 1st in top 3 divisions -- all divisions will have great prizes. Online registration only -- cuts off Friday 2/8 @ 6pm -- there will be no day of registration, so don't get left out.

2 rounds on the 18-hole tournament layout; par 61; ~7,500'.

We're using the new ratings based format for divisions, as follows:
Open/Gold: 970+
Advanced/Blue: 936-970
Intermediate/White: 901-935
Recreational/Red: 851-900
Novice/Green: <850

You can play up, but you can't play down...i.e. NO BAGGING. For example, if you were rated 937, you could play either Advanced or Open, but can't play Intermediate.

Proceeds benefit the Sullivan Center, a local charity who aids financially distressed people to prevent homelessness. http://www.thesullivancenter.org/ Please consider making an additional donation to this organization either directly (I can get you info), through the online registration, or in the form of donated items day of tournament -- canned foods, cash & gardening items are at the top of their list.

Lofstrand has designed a killer stamp for the discs:

I'll be able to bring my Chainstar for the Icebowl, but I'll be in Savannah this Sunday.
If you have someone who can transport it, I can bring it to Wills Tues., Weds., or Thursday and someone can bring it to "theP" and bring it back to me.

Let me know.

I own a DISCatcher Sport and a Lightning DB-5 both of which can be used if needed however neither one can fit in my car so I cant transport them to the park. The baskets reside in Woodstock and if they are needed and you can figure out a way to pick them up I would be more then happy to lend them to the tourny.

Moose we'd love to have rockstar available for a small fee that goes towards our GOAL OF RAISING $5,000!

If anybody works in/near town, maybe your company would be interesting in sponsoring this tourney? Josh Henley approached his boss and secured a $500 donation to the sullivan center! Contact me for a flyer you can send your boss.

Registrations have been coming in steadily -- 18 in, 54 spots left -- register soon & don't get left out!

7 signups yesterday, only 33 spots left

The neighborhood surrounding the park, Capitol View, is going to have a park cleanup the day before the tournament (Sat Feb 9th) if anyone is interested. Pretty impressive that the neighborhood is welcoming us like this.... No more shopping carts and picnic tables in the stream

Here is the message from Lisa, the CV secretary:

We have planned a "creek clean-up" at Perkerson Park to prepare for
your upcoming Disc Golf Tournament. We have scheduled it for
February 9th from 7:30 to noon and have ordered a roll-off dumpster
to be delivered that morning (from the City). If you and any of your
disc golf friends would like to come help with the effort, we would
certainly appreciate the extra hands.

We are working diligently to promote our neighborhood and
activities that will be beneficial to all. Your efforts with the disc
golf in the Park are appreciated and we want to
make the park look good for your upcoming event!

We decided to make the "start" time 7:30 a.m. because that's when
the City will be dropping off the roll-off container. They'll
only leave it until 11:00 a.m. We appreciate any help
no matter what time any volunteers arrive!!!

Thanks,
Lisa Yeiser
Secretary, CVNA

Just because it happened once doesn't mean it will happen again. Match play was different, it was nerve racking being head to head with your competition. This time there is no handicap and Kat has been playing some awesome golf so be prepared to be fishing your discs from the shule while I drive back home to Cumming with that awesome trophy for Central Park!

Great news on the associations, John.

You are doing a fine job of getting the dream to become a reality!

Keep it up!

Postby jritger » Tue Feb 05, 2008 10:20 am

Tourney is full! Sorry, no 5-somes in the interest of not finishing in the dark, the 72 player cap is firm.

4 people on the wait list that have already paid. Good chance you'll still get in as it is flu season...

Wait List
1. Eric Foss
2. Marshall Christie
3. Richard Kennel
4. John Stack

Registration is from 7:30 - 8:15. At 8:30, just before the players meeting, I will give away spots to those on the wait list for people who haven't checked in. Point being, get there early! If you're late, the Sullivan Center will appreciate your donation!

Another reason to get there early are the players pack discs, which everyone gets. I've been drooling over these things for the past week since they arrived. We have champion wraiths, champion tls, champion sidewinders & DX aviars. First come, first served. There are not quite enough champion discs to go around (I'd guess there are ~65, so don't be one of the last 7 to check in)

If you want to change divisions, let me know before Friday 2/8

Not a bad idea as far as a contest goes but since this is a charity event I say make it a 2 parter elimination contest.

1. Whoever brings the most canned food for the pantry gets in ... and
2. Whoever can win the "creek apple bobbing" contest

Make them earn it John

more info on the sullivan center

Postby jritger » Wed Feb 06, 2008 2:53 pm

I visited the sullivan center today at lunch and wanted to convey to you all what this event is raising money for. It's located on dill ave about 3 buildings down from the corner of metropolitan, about 1/2 mile north of the park.

Sister marie sullivan started the center about 20+ yrs ago to combat homelessness; the center now has a fulltime and volunteer staff of 10+ people. each month they accept applications for aid -- help with utilities, mortgage or food -- today was the monthly application day and they were in the process of sifting through 76 applications filled out this morning. Their motto is "a hand up not a hand out" -- before anyone gets anything, they must attend a minimum of 4 classroom style sessions on money management. They also hold classes on nutrition, education and employment, and offer computers with internet to aid people in finding jobs. There is a garden in the back of the facility that is open to the community; some people have planted their own garden beds.

They are highly appreciative of our support and sister marie will be at the event in the afternoon. In addition to financial donations, boxed/canned food & gardening tools are needed.

As far as the food goes....Djester......worry about your game and not the food.....you will eat like no other tournament before.

Wookie said he was going down on Saturday. I am trying to figure out a way to make it happen for myself. I think we need atleast ten people down there to make a good impression. What does everyone think and is anyone else planning on going.

I AM TIRED OF WAITING FOR THE GREAT RISING OF THE PHEONIX.......THIS EVENT WILL BE ONE TALKED ABOUT WHEN WE ARE OLD AND RANKED 890.

We should also start calling Ritger "Robin Hood"

We decided to make the "start" time 7:30 a.m. because that's when
the City will be dropping off the roll-off container. They'll
only leave it until 11:00 a.m. We appreciate any help
no matter what time any volunteers arrive!!!

for those that don't like hot dogs.... i can bring some johnsonville sausage....better cheddar!!! Moose!!! you're the man!!! rice balls and moose sauce?? Anyone that shows up would be welcomed, it doesn't matter how many show up as long as the ones that do are willing to work.... I wish John and I could get out earlier but no such luck. We'll also be marking off the course, measuring the *temp* temp holes.... and doing as much as possible to make Sunday run a little smoother. John is the man that is doing all of the work here to get this course permanent and he has put in tons of time by going to meetings, making friends with the surrounding nieghborhoods, scouting the park, and then running and putting together all this action for us to enjoy. Besides all that he has also been keeping the totals of all who have played and is keeping averages on the course, along with lowest scores from every time he's ran action out there..... I haven't seen anyone do that yet!!! A reward for hard work??....I'll see if i can scare something up....

Who is doing hotdogs and how did rice balls get into the conversation. I am coming to help with the cleanup at 7:30 am. Bring gloves cause that creek is nasty.

The food I was talking about to Djester was for Sunday with the Executive Chef of Anis JEFF GOMEZ.

I just thought I would detract people from Chuck's Oak Grove thread to look into a thread about a tournament for a good cause. Not that Chuck's isn't , but attention has been diverted from this thread. LOOK! Can't wait for this and thank you John for all of the hard work I know you have done to accomplish this major task. Let me know if you need anything.

Results up on PDGA

SSA Round 1 (1000 rated round) = ~59
SSA Round 2 (1000 rated round) = ~60

EVERYONE that preregistered showed up, so only a few people got in off the wait list. Crazy wind & perfect weather. Neighbors were very interested and seemed supportive. New course record of 54 (Marshall Christie & Kevin McCoy).

Not done with the math yet, but looks like we raised about $1500 for the Sullivan Center, as well as a couple hundred lbs of food. Thanks to everyone that played and helped out and donated.

Perkerson Shirts & Visors are still available in most sizes and colors -- proceeds will go to the course fund.

Next action, AND LAST ON THE 18 HOLE LAYOUT UNTIL FALL 2008 - 2nd Sunday March 9th - Time TBD

Side Action Results --

Big thanks to Gomez and crew for throwing down Bobby Flay style and bringing us a great lunch. Can't wait for the next Perkerson action on a permanent course.

accounting & rationale

Postby jritger » Mon Feb 11, 2008 3:22 pm

Total raised -- $1910 + ~200 lbs canned/dry food for the Sullivan Center

Entry fees + cash proceeds (merch sales, raffle, etc) = $3579
Total sponsor cash donations = $675
--------------------------------------
Total Revenue = $4254

Innova players packs - ($1200)
Merch - ($1119)
Sanction fee - ($25)
-------------------------------------
Total Expenses = ($2344)

Net Income = $1910

Would be higher but we have only sold half the merchandise. I still have shirts, visors & two CFR destroyers left -- proceeds will go to start a Perkerson course fund.

Not sure how to tally the noncash donations, mainly because of the amazing food that gomez hooked up, but I'd guess $2000+ in non-food donated items from our sponsors went out as raffle items & CTP prizes.

Thanks to everyone who donated & helped out running the event, especially to Bob, Lofstrand, Gomez, Moose, Henley, Wade, Woody, Keith, Greg, Michael B, Tommy, Wes C, etc -- sorry if i'm forgetting anyone...

To anyone wanting to know about rationale for the wait list, I added a ghost card to let in two of the top tier players which allowed me to take #1 & #2 off the wait list. If they weren't playing, I would have capped the tourney at 72; any 5-somes or more groups and we wouldn't have had time for 2 rounds. Amazingly, everyone who preregistered showed up.

Next time sign up early; tournaments are selling out this year...

I don't see how Anthony was a problem?

He only talked while Keith was getting ready to throw, he only offered Vern throwing tips and was overly supportive to all our group when our shots were good! He was snazziest dressed gallery member, in that purple suit and he promised to hook me up with some local color, if you get my drift.
I'm thinking about getting him to do play by play of Woody's video!

Boots, you weren't there! You missed out on about $250 worth of "just show up" money between this one and Moseley.
Fart, it's never not funny!

BTW John - our friend Anthony said he was going to call the parks people to have them make the course perm. According to him he has a lot of pull in the area and said it would not be a problem.
The Hula Hoop became so ubiquitous that the former Soviet Union banned the toy as a symbol of the "emptiness of American culture."

Dang... I must of made the TD mad!!

Instead of finishing around 9th in Advanced, I ended up almost dead last!!

Of Course my brother was probably happy since he jumped up about 15 spots or so. :D

Looks like they transposed my score with my brothers.

Oh well, That will help me on me quest to play intermediate!! LOL !!

First chance to make a public thanks for a great tournament. Thanks John. I had a blast. If it wasn't for my first round I had a chance. I can't wait to play this course again. Give me a call when you need help designing and installiong the perm. course.
