Mark your calendars for 2012's first ADGO members event.

We will need a firm headcount one week prior to the event (by Feb 12th, 2012) to secure an adequate amount of tools. We will be charged by the head and will also use this headcount to purchase food. Use this form to signup.

As you may know, installation of the disc golf course at Perkerson is finally underway. This event is replacing the already scheduled Perkerson Pandemonium. In an effort to get the course installed, we'll be combining a work day in the morning and a round in the afternoon on the new course. We'll be clearing the course that morning, so this will be the very first time the new holes (most of the course) is played. In between, the ADGO will serve up a lunch for members. Steve Adams will be running the 2012 Atlanta Area Bag Tag Challenge and will run the initial bag tag match in conjunction with the afternoon round. There are only 65 tags this year, so bring $15 to purchase one at this event.

Your time is valuable! In fact, each volunteer hour will count $20 toward matching CASH funds that will be available for this installation (and leftover for future installations). We have already raised nearly $15,000 in matching funds ($9k in baskets + course fund + volunteer hours to date). The deal with the city is that the installation must be 100% by the disc golf community -- that inclues all clearing and teepad install -- in return, they have purchased 19 Gateway Titan baskets with 55 pin placements.

We'll also be using this event to kick off an ADGO reorganization campaign. More details on ADGO reorganization here. More details to follow, but we're looking at decentralizing the organization by growing the country/city entity level clubs. Your ADGO dues will stay at the local entity level and can be spent directly in your area on your course.


Key Times:
8am-9am: Arrive and renew or signup for ADGO (cost is $15/year). If possible please signup online here prior to the event.
9am - 12pm: Workday on course installation.
12pm: Lunch. Provided by the ADGO.
1pm: Play a round on the new course that we've just constructed. First ever round on the new holes.

2012 ADGO Membership Fees: $15. Note that membership counts towards your entity level club ... right now only applicable to Cobb, Roswell and Gwinnett Affiliate Clubs

Allen, I'm assuming that you're asking these questions because you are a beginner. A basic set of three discs is fine for starting out. You will need a putter, midrange, and driver. For the putter, you can't go wrong with an Aviar. I always recommend max weight(175g) on the putter because it will fly truer in short distances and will not be as affected by wind conditions as lighter discs. The midrange should be a Stingray to start off with then you may want to migrate to other more stable discs. The Stingray is very beginner friendly and is great for weaving through woods once you get the hang of it. As for the driver, best bet is a Sidewinder. Go lighter weight with this (160's) and you should be fine. Depending on where you are, your best shopping options are Disc Caddie in the Marietta Square or Disc Talker(?) near Alexander Park in Lawrenceville. Otherwise, you can waste your money on non-disc golf shops like Play It Again or Sports Authority, but to get cool points you need to help out the afore mentioned.

While I am excited to see Perk go in permanent (it will be my home course), I am disappointed to discover that this event will no longer be at Redan. The Bag Tag challenge is the closest thing to an actual event to be held at Redan while I'm certain that there will be many workdays and events to follow out at Atlanta's newest course, The P.

Reminder that the 2012 "ADGO Freezin' Member Event" is this Sunday Feb 19th.

We need a headcount before the event to get the right amount of food and tools -- so register using the link in the top post.

This event will be the kick-off for the newly reorganized ADGO and new Board Member positions will be elected and announced during this event. Need to get those nominations in -- I'm not aware of ANY received yet. This organization will only continue to work if people step up to lead it. Please consider getting involved.

Apologies about the date change, but the original date did not work. We tried going with Saturday 2/18 but conflict with the OP Ice Bowl led us to Sunday the 19th.

Park Pride is bringing a truckload of tools for use by everyone who shows up, but if you want to bring your own you are welcome to.

I will be driving thru Atlanta on the 19th and was wondering if I could come out and be a worker for this. I have no problem with becoming a 2012 member and supporting the club and the new course. I am a member of the Chile Ray Design Group that designs and builds disc golf courses along with other outdoor activities.

Weather is looking like rain Sat night but it should be cleared out by Sunday 9am.

Big thanks to everyone that came out yesterday in spite of the nasty weather. We had 26 people come out and got a lot of work done on the course. Most people hung around to play the course and 18 bag tags were sold.

Due to the small turnout and lack of nominations for ADGO BOD candidates, we decided to postpone the elections. More on that soon.
