Sorry, I am unaware of any tournament going on that day anywhere else in the state. What tournament are you talking about? Since it isn't listed in Sanctioned or Unsanctioned tournaments, I assumed the date was clear.

Anyhow, the course is getting its ritual facelift. The bulk of the work will probably be cleaning up and extending hole 7 to make it a true par 4. Right now it's just a tweener and doesn't quite represent the original idea. I've already trimmed down sweetgums on the left side/early.

Also I've been painting some new signs. Plan to get those out and up by next weekend.

Certainly need it for some work! Trees down in the fairways/walkways is a good start. After that, lengthening 7 and cleaning up new holes between current 3-4.

You should only have 2 divisions: Open and Am....no Int and Advanced bc if I recall this past summer the 4th place INT would have gotten 3rd in Advanced and the INT winner 2nd by only a stroke....It would make it a lot more fun I think....But count me in regardless

My problem with that is that there is such a difference between the top of am and the bottom of am. I like three divisions better, doing away with Intermediate. I'm really not up for changing too much, as we've done it this way for 9 other tournaments...

The way to curtail this is by making the pay-in and thus pay out low enough that it is not worth bagging.

If you were to look between am and pro, it worked out perfectly, but as said above, the problem came with our winners and top few places in Intermediate. What I'd like to do is open a division similar to rec and do away with intermediate. The highest intermediate score is 6 strokes worse than the highest advanced score. Usually some folks come that would've scored higher than those----and they'd belong in said made up division.

I'm not being a smart a$$ by asking this, but why a ratings cap if there's only one division? Maybe I don't understand ratings cap. Do you mean if you are below, say, 850, then you aren't in?

I don't have a rating. How does it apply to me?

I can't see doing one division. That would be okay only with, say, someone who's undefeated in all their tournaments at the Monty---and Barry. Do y'all know anyone who's accomplished this?

I love grease and I understand what your saying Luke. The Monty is a different tourney though and a different approach would suite well. I think all cash is a good idea and I'd bet that you'd have a record turn out. . That being said I'd cap the am teams at 960 for either player ( no rating = 960 default) and the buy-in would have a large gap between them. Say 20 each for ams and 50 each for pros. With all the side to boot.

I would think you will not have the turn out you think if everyone is playing for cash unless there is a scoring handicap. You might have more Open players but I doubt you would get as many Am's as you have had in the past.

Not every competition has to be about money. I know it's not a big deal to anyone else but I am not driving 8 hours to donate my money to someone else. I can find a course up here in NC and do that. Most folks already throw in cash for all the CTP's and that's a pretty good donation to the cause right there.

I don't understand your question. You can compete at anything, I am talking about the prize for winning said competition doesn't always have to be about money. Why does the different path always have to be slanted so that the Open players are taking money away from the AM's? The only folks that have changed it that I know of is the folks at ERP and how they do their singles on Mondays with a handicap. Maybe every AM player doesn't aspire to be a Pro and just enjoys going out and competing against players of their same skill level.

3 divisions: Elite, Wannabe and Barneys. Lets call them what they are and get past it. Elite and Wannabe should pay the same amount while the Barneys pay less and play for trophy.

I really like those division names. I also like three divisions. What I didn't like in recent tournaments is the intermediate group not playing up more, like most others do at the Monty. Advanced teams seemed to be about right. Intermediate---well, just look at my post above. They don't know the unwritten unsanctioned "rule" about playing up.

What if the third division had a ratings cap? Or some similar way of rating the players? Max of 3 tournaments played? Sumpthin'.

Luke - just make the buy-in for intermediate 10 bucks. Less incentive to bag and those true intermediates there for the experience and ctps can still have a good time. That's the only true way to get folks to move up. And, you do have to play bagger police...

391'. It's a tweener, and I don't like the length at all. I want to do away with the current teepad and make the long one about 100' longer (using the downhill distance behind the teepad) and make a short teepad that is reachable by many.

It's a disc you'll probably never throw. It's at least designed that way. I bought a small run of...optimizers?

I had a very limited choice for discs. It turns out that these are very large and make for a good stamp.

Hopefully no one will throw them----only 30!

There are now 18 teams on the list, with several guys still out that I know are coming. The attendance record is 50 something people, set this summer at MD9.

There are 9 sponsor discs left.

Hole information is more complete; all ctps and long putts are listed, all distances listed except 6 that need measuring.

The tournament is listed as an event on facebook on "The Monty" page. All information there will be current, plus a video or two and a few pics.

Some guys are coming down on Sunday and we're going to do a little work on the course. Afterward we will golf. I plan to set up the holes that aren't in the current layout. We'd love to have your help---golfers' input is valuable to me. We hope to clean up on holes 4, 6, 7, 9, walkway to 11, walkway to 12, 13, 14, 16. This sounds like a lot, but some holes have nothing more than logs that need moving.

Big thanks to JK, Steve "Shiv" Brown, and Wade Selph for their Selphless donation of time and work today. Because of them, hole 7 has a new short pad, not to mention that it's wider on both sides of the fairway. We also created a new pad location for hole 9---and a new temp pin position. We widened and lengthened that fairway, making it straight. And we got measurements on all holes for the tournament.

I don't think anyone's noticed, but we've now got more teams signed up than have ever come to the Monty Dubs. Usually, if you go by early online signup, 3 or so more teams come than are listed. This is great news. I think I course record is 54 people, set at Monty Dubs IX.

I think the regular postman still has the ability to carry envelopes with things in them and I am sure it would only take a day or so to get from Doraville to Luke's place. :mrgreen:

Folks, ignore the smoke and mirrors of other tournaments and do yourself a favor- PLAY MONTY DUBS! This tourney should be stickied since non-sanctioned tournaments and info threads are. Just saying. Either way, play the best tourney of the year and have a great time! Awesome course and vibe! You'll be sorry if you miss it!

The non-sanctioned stickied thread is the ADGO Event which is the only non-sanctioned Event which is always stickied as it is an ADGO Event.
And the info thread covers 6 PDGA Sanctioned Events over a 6 month period.

The Monty gets plenty of action and plenty of chatter with no issues where it is since Luke knows how to keep the mutliple threads on it alive year round. :lol:

Tomorrow (Sunday 1/28) is a workday at the Monty. There'll be six or so of us out there improving the course. I'll have baskets set up on 17 long, 18 open, and 19 open (the par 5 1031' hole with three obs!) Come on out, throw a stick or seven off the fairway, and play a round on the tournament layout. 10 am

Even though I brought my trademark inconsistent game to the park, this was a fantastic tournament. First time playing Monty for me too, so well-deserved props are in order to Luke for his work on a challenging, well-designed course as well as his efforts in staging a great show.

And whoever bought off the weather gods, absolute stroke of genius there...

Had a great time as always Luke! Thanks for the hospitality of your home too. Course was looking good and liked the changes you've made. Cheesecake raised over $50 and glad $ and JPZ enjoyed it. Not to blow my own horn but as a last minute recipe change I think I nailed it!
