Tournament For Tots

Postby Discstalker_Dave » Tue Oct 11, 2011 12:12 pm

Disc Stalker has rented Alexander Park on Saturday December 3rd for a Toys For Tots tournament. Here are the details...

We will be taking over the doubles play in the morning and will have two rounds of doubles play in the following format. In the morning it will be random draw with a pro/am pairing and will be best shot format. You will then play a second round with your partner in the afternoon, however instead of best shot, both of you will play a normal round playing the shots you throw and then the scores from all three will be summed to determine winners. Thus, if I play with someone in the morning and we shoot a 45, then we play again in the afternoon and my partner shoots a 50 and I shoot a 58 then our score will be (45 + 50 + 58) for a total of 153 for the two rounds.

Parings will be PRO/AM with each division determined by what a player shoots normally at Alex, 1/2 of the field will be PRO and the other will be AM. While we are still tweaking the separation, it will likely be based on around a 950 rating for play at Alex which is currently around a 53, thus if you normally shoot a 53 or lower then you would be categorized as a PRO and above as an AM. In order to get even pairings we will likely move that one way or another.

We'll use the course rating set after the Gwinnett County Open for Alex.

Disc Stalker will provide free T-shirts with the tournament logo on it to all players, there will be no cash payouts, we will be looking for donations from individuals or businesses who will be listed as sponsors for the event for prizes and awards. Tifosi Sunglasses has ponied up a nice pair of sunglasses worth $60 dollars each for the winning team, so that's an example of that we are looking for as prizes and awards, of course Disc Stalker will be making up cool trophy discs for 1st - 5th place. If you are a business or an individual and have something cool to donate to be given out as a prize then let me know about it and I'll update this post as we go with info, cool collectable discs and other disc golf stuff would be great.

Registration is free with $20 dollars worth of toys or you can pay $20 dollars, you can sign up at Disc Stalker or send us an email at "storemanager at discstalker.com" and we'll put you on the list, in the email let us know what your average round is for playing Alex so we can get you into the appropriate grouping. We would also love to have women and juniors get involved as well.

Greg Poither and I will be running this together and will likely be tweaking the format as we go and will post details and updates here.

Above all, we want this to the a fun event and are looking for ideas to make it interesting and fun and hope that it will be the first of many annual Toys for Tots tournaments to come...

I am so happy you are doing this and I will buy an entry, but will be at Redan that day for the Bag Tag finals. I encourage other bag-taggers to do the same.

In fact, for every bag-tagger that buys in to Tournament for Tots, I'll pitch in another 2 dollars.

Cool - this makes that weekend a toys for tots weekend as Sequoyah does their toys for tots Cold Snake Classic on Sunday the 4th!

What are you doing for people rated 950 that don't play Alexander?

I get to be the guy last picked like the kid with the broken arm back in school when it was time for Red Rover.

I'm not sure you want to know what we do to players that don't play Alex, I mean it ain't pretty, it involves a bottle of Diagra (Viagra for Disc Golfers, for those days you just can't get your disc up) and 24 hours endurance play at Alex in a thong made of minis!

:>)

We'll defer to a persons judgment on this with advice from our esteemed panel of experts and tar and feather anyone who tries to beat the system!!!

Oh - I'm NOT trying to beat the system - I would sign up for PRO - it's mainly just for the people in AM that would complain if I was their "PRO" partner.

Word on the street from guys who have played with you is that a little bit of deodorant goes a long way!!!

Kinda like what I get, "Dude, do you always have to eat chili before you play?"

What if you don't have a doubles partner (cause they're out of town working)? Is it still possible for me to play?

Tournament For Tots Info...

Postby Discstalker_Dave » Wed Nov 30, 2011 4:13 pm

First thing is we are happy to announce that Toys For Tots will be sending a Marine our way!!! His name is Joseph Cerniglia and I have asked him to join us for lunch at the pavilion so hopefully he can make it out when we are all gathered together

We have reserved pavilion # 3 at Alexander, this is the same one that Greg used for the Alexander Aerial Armada, we'll meet there between 9 and 10 to draw pairings and plan on teeing off at 10 am for the first round. Lunch will be provided after the first round at the pavilion and the second round will start immediately after lunch.

For the second round we will split the PROs and AMs into separate cards so you will not be playing with your partner, AMs will play from the red tees for the second round, partner scores will be combined after the round. This should make for a more relaxed play for the both sides as you won't actually know how your partner is doing.

No 2 meter rule and group agreement on other rules such as OB and whatnot.

Side action of $5 bucks for CTP and Ace fund, if an Ace is not hit then the money will be donated to Toys For Tots, CTP holes will be 1, 8, 12 and 15.

Please bring your toys or cash donation to the pavilion before the first round...

Oh and if I hear of anyone, ANYONE AT ALL taking this too seriously and not having fun I reserve the right to make the second round a RIPT Revenge round...

That is all!!!

Total raised in toys and cash was a little over $1200 bucks...

Greg and I both enjoyed it a bunch, it'll be Saturday December 1st next year...

Thanks,
