The Archon is a new Speed 11 Distance Driver that blends the graceful long turn of the Katana with the smooth fade of a Wraith. It has been described as a longer Valkyrie. This will be a great disc for players looking to master their games and rule the course.

I threw the disc at Wills Park last night after work for over 45 minutes in all wind directions and immediately stuck it in my bag. The disc goes a looonnng way fast and straight with minimal fade - I even did a Forrest Calloway "death from above" throw over the trees and it held the hyzer line for over 300 feet in length after going over the top of the trees lining 5/6 fairways while throwing it from the parking lot by the stables.

HOLE BY HOLE DESCRIPTIONS MEEKS PARK (PAR 56)
TWO METER RULE IS IN EFFECT
Pool 1 (ALL Divisions EXCEPT REC Men) plays all Longer tees
Pool 2 (all REC Men) plays all shorter tees EXCEPT on holes 12 & 17 where they will play the longer tees

Hole 1 280 / 192 ft Par 3
Both Pools tee to a basket ahead and slightly to the right.
To next tee both pools walk straight ahead and to the left.

Hole 2 238 / 177 ft Par 3
Both Pools tee to a basket straight ahead in the trees.
To next tee, Pool 1 turns back and towards the right, Pool 2 turns right 70 feet

Hole 3 555 / 437 ft Par 4
Both Pools tee to a basket ahead on the slope. Anywhere inside the pavilion area surrounded by concrete is OB. Road and beyond on the right is OB. Concrete / grass edge closer to basket area is the OB line. Discs leaning on the curb are OB.
To next tee, both Pools turn left to #4 tees

Hole 4 336 / 258 ft Par 3
Both pools tee to a basket uphill in the trees.
To next tee Pool 1 turns left to #5 tee, and Pool 2 walks straight ahead behind stump/ bushes to # 5 tee.

Hole 5 448 / 294 ft Par 3
Both pools tee to a basket straight ahead on the hilltop.
Inside fenced area is O.B. Concrete/Grass line and Wood/Rock line on right side of the fairway and beyond basket are O.B.
To next tee, Pool 1 turns left to #6 tee and Pool 2 turns left and back towards tree to #6 tee.

Hole 6 260 / 177 ft Par 3
Both pools tee to a basket straight ahead in the trees.
To next tee, Both Pools turns right to #7 tee pads.

Hole 7 286 / 248 ft Par 3
Both Pools tee to a basket straight ahead in the trees
To next tee, Both Pools walk straight ahead towards end of tree line to #8 tees.

Hole 8 327 / 245 ft Par 3
Pool 1 MANDO!!! Right of tree next to REC tee, Drop Zone is REC tee
Both Pools tee to a basket that is a dogleg to the left on the hill side slope beyond the tunnel of trees.
To next tee turn right and downhill towards the lakebed to #9 tees. Pool 2 tee is 300 ft beyond Pool 1 tee, left of the path.

Hole 9 733 / 430 ft Par 4
Both pools tee to a basket ahead and toward the left near the creek.
Beyond bottom wire on the Barbed Wire Fence for Pool 1 is O.B.
Once beyond the fence by the REC tee there is NO OB.
To next tee, Both Pools walk ahead to #10 tees

Hole 10 316 / 240 ft Par 3
Both Pools tee to a basket uphill on the slope.
Beyond bottom wire on the Barbed Wire Fence is O.B. To next tee, Pool 1 turns right and back uphill, with Pool 2 turning right up the hill to #11 tees.

Hole 11 269 / 223 ft Par 3
Both Pools tee to a basket downhill straight ahead.
To next tee, Both Pools turn left on the slope. ALL players will tee from #12 LONG TEE.

Hole 12 180 ft Par 3
ALL PLAYERS Tee from Long Tee to a basket straight ahead
To next tee, Pool 1 walks straight ahead and slightly left, Pool 2 turn left up the slope to #13 tees.

Hole 13 288 / 194 ft Par 3
Both Pools tee to a basket straight ahead on slope.
To next tee, Pool 1 turns right and forward, Pool 2 turns right to #14 tees.

Hole 14 390 / 287 ft Par 3
Both Pools tee to a basket straight ahead in the field.
To next tee, Both Pools turn left towards the #15 tees.

Hole 15 447 / 288 ft Par 3
Both pools tee to a basket 30 feet beyond the “V” on the trail to a basket on the slope.
MANDO!!! Left of marked tree on the corner of the tree line. Drop Zone is flagged painted area to the left. Inside of fenced dog area on left of fairway is OB.
To next tee, Both Pools straight ahead and to the left to # 16 tees

Hole 16 211 / 148 ft Par 3
Both pools tee to a basket straight ahead across path in the tunnel of trees.
Beyond Gravel Path is O.B. On Path is I.B.
To next tee, ALL PLAYERS follow trail to the left to #17 LONG TEE.

Hole 17 245 ft Par 3
ALL PLAYERS Tee from Long Tee to a basket on the left side of the path in the trees on the slope.
To next tee, Both Pools walk straight ahead to # 18 tees.

Hole 18 227 / 170 ft Par 3
Both Pools tee to a basket ahead and to the right.
To next tee, Both Pools walk right and back down path to #1 tees

It's official - I guess now unless it's Lake Russell the GSSS is dead - only 9 entries in 17 hours :cry:

- usually there is nine entries in the first 10 minutes. :mrgreen:

It was a good run - 20 out of 20 Sellouts in less than 2 weeks after going on sale with several selling out in less than 24 hours - until Event #3 this year.

Some stats from the glory days of the GSSS:

Only 1 &1/2 rounds of rain out of 44(3 rounds for LR and A-tier last year for those looking at math skills :mrgreen:

)

Over 45 thousand in cash and over 50 thousand in merchandise paid out / given away / or in players packs in those 20 Events.

Several hundred hours spent in course preparation / marking / cleanup for the 20 Events which helped those courses for daily use also - as some courses incorporated GSSS pad/pin locations in their regular layouts, or got concrete or other improvements from parks because of GSSS Events run there.

Over 5 thousand dollars raised for charities in several cities.

PDGA Tournament run for the first time ever or first time in years at several courses in the area.

But the most important stat of all is getting to meet/see 71 (or in the inagural Event, thanks to John Inman 72) of my freinds, soon to be friends, Local Parks Managers and staffs, my fellow competitors, or people involved with the sport or wanting to learn about the sport - which is the main reason I run Events.

I can't play Disc Golf well, so I run Events well to make up for it. :mrgreen:

Hopefully when the economy picks up fully, and everyone doesn't have to decide which 5/10 of the 45 PDGA Events in the state they can afford to play in - the GSSS will return to the top of most golfers lists of CAN'T MISS Events they want to play in.

out of about 50 tourneys Ive played, the GSSS ones have always been the smoothest Ive seen, the best payouts Ive seen, the most info given at players' meetings, and some of the better course prep/OB guides I've seen as well.
From the AM perspective, if you havn't played one of Keiths events, you've missed out.
I try not to get involved in politics, so anything I miss on that level is no loss to me. As a player I like to have things spelled out, good info given, and fair play.

Thanks Keith for your efforts, its always been worth driving down from TN for your events. I don't think the series is dead, its just a matter of economy, and as is here in TN most players may be holding out to last minute to see what the weather/funds are gonna be before they commit, with them not selling out as fast, its letting them decide later I guess.

keep it up, and with so many new courses popping up, the option opens to really mixing it up more next year, maybe play 5 totally new courses, and as always leave lake russell as the finale.

Brian, info from PDGA usually comes at round 3am and then still has to be manually uploaded which he probably does in batches because its a PITA.

Since the event is at Meeks, Keith will only accept a jar of change as payment when you wait until the day of the event to pay. He will not accept cash, check, or change that has been rolled.

Actually he changed the jar to a zip lock baggy and added that it also can not contain silver money as well

Keith my name is Chris Hamby. I have played in 3 other tournaments you have helped at this year. Meeks madness, dog fest, and the eagle eye open this past weekend. I had intended to sign up for the gsss event at meeks but did not get paid until this past Friday. If anyone cancels or there is any way I can get into this tournament please let me know. I am a rec. Keith, if you are interested in having catering there, my parents have a restaurant near there and said they would take orders in the morning and have food for lunch. They are also interested in maybe doing a hole sponsorship OR having contributing a CTP hole.

Send me your info by PM and I can check it out. The BBQ place in Rome that catered Wes's Event last week was a huge hit for the players, and they already had said they would like to come back in July, but nothing is set in stone yet - what type of food do you guys have?

It has been that way for the last 3 weeks. It looks like a Temp Tee pad will have to be used.

See the Series does create it 's own special things -bonus Events, bonus days of the month - keep looking for what comes next! :mrgreen:

Lunch will be available to purchase in the morning to be delivered when the 1st round is over from the same place that did it for Meeks Madness in March! She will be set up in the back of the pavilion taking orders until the 1st round starts.

2 spots are available as Kevin McCoy just called me and said Courtney and both youngsters were sick, so they will not be coming.
If anyone is interested you MUST call my cell phone at 305-720-8422 BEFORE 6 PM this evening as after that service is spotty and after this post, I will not see the message board until late Sat / early Sunday morning.

Zak Kemmer aces Hole 12 for 94 dollars
Chris Quarles and Joel Shimkus notch their FIRST PDGA Sanctioned wins.
Wes Campbell goes from last (12th) place 6 strokes out of 1st place to 2nd place 1 stroke out of 1st with his first ever PDGA 1000 rated round with a 1006.

All 25 REC players have ratings showing as there were more than enough propagators.

Hopefully as more and more play sanctioned Events and get PDGA #'s, by the end of the year, there will always be enough propagators at every PDGA Event in 2012.

HUGE THANKS AGAIN to Matthew, Katie and newborn Chloe for their hospitality FRI night before the Event for the Johnson family.

Also a big thanks to Matthew for all the nice new benches (except the one in the middle of 13's fairway that I threw at both rounds :mrgreen:

) on all the holes!

Next steps are HOPEFULLY concrete and to add a few alternate pin locations that I spoke to Matthew about that he was requesting ideas on. I will be supplying the sleeves for some of those to go on holes 8, 15 for sure and possibly 9 or 10 as my thanks to him and the parks department for their generousity through the years.

Thanks also to all the players who showed up, and keep in mind Event #5 goes on sale in less than 98 hours!

You're welcome Keith and family. Like you said, thanks to the tourney players, because it's been their participation and dollars that make course improvements possible. There were a lot of first timers to Meeks, and without your tournaments, course work on multiple courses, and dedication to the sport, the entire scene of this state would miss out on a lot. McFlurries are for everyone!
