To next tee, both pools turn right to concrete slab.

Hole 2 240 ft Par 3
Both pools tee from concrete slab to a basket straight ahead and slightly right (Left pin position).
Road and beyond past basket is OB.
To next tee, both Pools cross road to tee #3.

Hole 3 345 ft Par 3

There is always the short pad option I use there in the GSSS every year which Barry is familiar with which has fair fairways but still allows for scoring separation - if he wanted to use it - can''t remember if he did last year.

I'm thinking we'll play it from the short par 3 pad ... maybe Open will play from the long par 4 pad. Either way it's a fair hole.

From the long pad: nice, straight midrange down the middle with just a little fade and you're playing from or past the short pad which gives you a great shot at a bird.

From the short tee: Basket in left position: midrange/fairway driver on a slight hyzer line, maybe a tomahawk
Basket in right position: Whippet thumber

A scoring spread it indeed causes but its not because it is a challanging or risky hole. You either get through or you do not. I don't like holes that require a majority of luck to be successful. This is why I think a better hole for tournament play could be found/used.

I don't have any major issues with the rest of the course, but it's no secret that hole #2 has been found wanting. IMO it's an unfair hole.

Once again that would require luck-either good or bad. A good golf course should not have a hole that is based almost purely on luck-that's what I'm trying to say.

Here's a scenario. If you were tied for first and a playoff insued and you were still tied after the first hole, do you think hole 2 is a good representation of a playoff hole? Do you think that given how well the two of you had played for the tournament that hole 2 should be a part of the deciding factor?

I've seen worse fairways too, but not that many. This hole could be good, its just not.

From the concrete pad halfway down the fairway even with basket #1 and using the left pin position it is a very fair hole with 2 distinct fairways to the basket with scores of 2-4 at both years of the GSSS Events.

Daniel, have you played it that way on hole 2?

From the regular pad, I agree it is a crapshoot which is why in 4 years of using the course, I have and will never use that pad as there is 2-3 trees needed to be removed to create a fair fairway - but also knowing that the Park won't let the trees be cut, just as the city of Alpharetta won't let certain trees be cut at Wills Park - that you make do with what you are allowed to do.

From what I know and have heard, the original idea was for the pad to be there as trees were supposed to be planted for allowing trees to be cut on 2, but that got overturned at a later date, so it became what it was - and is today - a tee that people play, but not one that is usually used for events.

The best place to park is right off McElroy Rd. See this link for a Google Map of the park. Otherwise you can park around the playground in the gravel or in the gravel beside the fairway to hole 7. Either way there is plenty or parking all around the park but these will be the closest options to Tournament HQ.

2. Where will we be meeting at for the event HQ? I am unfamiliar with the park and area so just want to be sure i know where I am supposed to be.

Tournament HQ will be located at one of the pavilions near the playground between Hole 18 and Hole 1.

Pool 2 is playing all the concrete tee boxes except for Hole 8. Hole 8 has a short pad up on the hill almost adjacent to the pin for Hole 7. Flags were put out on Sunday marking the pad...hopefully they are still there.

As of last Sunday afternoon the Hole 11 long tee is marked with flags (and they were still there Wednesday night when I played). From 10's basket, the flags are quite visible. The tee is NOT the GSSS tee, it's probably 300ish ft. shorter.

No unofficial round ratings for recreational division because there weren't enough propagators for them to be generated. Once I submit the TD report they will calculate official round ratings for the next update.

Couple interesting things. Even with the added length to Hole 11 making it a par 5 it still wasn't as hard of a hole as Hole 9. The scoring separation on Hole 10 was weak thus proving the long position is kinda boring.
