Dale - this course is uber-fun and uber fair. It is what ERP would be if some trees could be cut down in the fairways. Plus it has a few open holes that are interesting and fun. I wish that I could play in this tournament, but just cannot do it that weekend. It is worth the trip.

It used to be Deer Ridge, but now it is the Monty. Deer Ridge is a crappy uninspired name given by an uninspired person who had nothing to do with disc golf or the work that went into the course. From Redan:

278 to Klondike Road, going South past Stonecrest Mall. Left on Highway 212. Drive 35 minutes until you're on Jackson Lake. 2 miles past the lake, 4 way stop--go through it. About 6 miles and you'll see a Firetower way off the road on the right side. THat's the course marker. The white signs are hard to see from the road--they sneak up on you. one says "Jasper County Recycling and Convenience Center", one says "Jasper COunty Parks and Recreation", and one says "Disc Golf Course. If you pass the Sheriff's Department on the right, you've gone 1000 feet too far. Pull into the park and park on the left side of the road in the parking lot, opposite the kiosk. Walk past the kiosk to get to #1 in the woods.

The 5 open holes are not manicured as they will be in a week or so. All holes, though, are playable.

The ninth hole currently has a pole instead of a basket.

Ok, so I was kinda vague there.

Thanks to Wade, Clunck, and Jeff for their help this week. Most of the baskets are now metallic blue and await white reflective numbers. The grass is mowed. Directional signs are hung. #9 is still a pole hole, but we'll remedy that soon enough. Red and orange tees are being "installed" on each hole. Red will be the first round longer tees, and orange will be the 2nd round shorter tees. Sometimes they will be the same tee and the basket will move.

Thanks also to Wade for now sponsoring 2 holes! The rest of you can thank him, since part of that money will go to payout.

You should be able to sign up the day of, but please note that if we fill up, you'll be left hanging. I personally don't expect it to fill up, though a few other TD's have mentioned it. Keep your eye on PDGA.com under the tournaments thread. You can click to see who's signed up. Right now there's only 4-5, but I know of around 20 others who'll be in it, including me.

If I remember right, the players' pack will be a voucher for Primo Plastic, who will be on hand. Greg has the best plastic in the galaxy.

Hope you make it down---missed meeting you at the last doubles tournament. My old hometown of Athens has yet to send a representative to the Monty.

THanks to Wade and Josh for all their work--Today and on other days. We have new signs cemented in the ground and a new pin for 18 short. #2 and #7 baskets are now moveable for the tournament. The park is in good condition. OB's are not set up yet on 5 and 14/15/17/18.

FOOD FOR THE TOURNAMENT: RESPONSES NEEDED

Let me know if you plan to bring your own food, or if you would be ok to order from Pop's BBQ---they will deliver to the course. We need a strong response in order to get them out---at least 30 orders.

The difference in these two is that in Scenario 1, some of the food may get cold---unless you are early finishing round 1.

In Scenario 2, the smoker will be at the course---but only if there is enough of a response on this thread to justify bringing it.

Please let me know what you plan to do, or even if you aren't coming, what you would consider. I'm trying to get a feel for what we'll need/want to provide, if anything, for lunch.

From what I can ascertain, we've probably got over 20 now---so many not signing up. Two carloads are coming from Milledgeville, some from Macon, guys from atl, possibly 2-3 from Athens...etc etc etc.

I haven't heard----but not many people have signed up online. I know Benton will be there, but maybe playing Masters with me Grease and Micheal Burton. I would expect more pros to play. If you're going to the Mose on Saturday, maybe use your incredible influence on a few pros there.

The local bbq joint will be coming out to take orders in the morning before the first round. I recommend doing this so you don't have to leave the park. It is Sunday, and church will be taking up the local restaurants--of which there are only a few choices. We do have bathroom facilities at the baseball park across the street from the course, so no reason to leave. Please bring cashola and support the minute economy of My CousinVinnyville.

Pop's BBQ will be there at 8:00 am to take orders. The plate will consist of a large amount of chopped bbq, 2 sides (slaw and chips are the choices), and sliced bread. The total will be 8 bucks, which is a wonderfully low amount (though it might not sound like it) that will keep us from driving and fighting the church crowd at the other restaurant in town!

Signup for food will be during signup for the tournament. The Monty will provide a selection of el cheapo soft drinks.

Thanks Brian and Luke for a great day! The Chupacabra jumped up and bit me in the buttocks! Had a lot of fun and played with really great groups. I was disappointed to not win the ctp for the ninja starter kit, but oh well. Always a blast out there, you other chumps missed out. Brian also did a great job on his first TD effort. Hope there are many more to come.
