Lenora Labor Day Mixed Doubles Tournament

1 round of 18 holes of mixed doubles competition

$10 per person ($20 per team)

TOurnament HQ will be the large pavillion near the children's playground (near hole 18)
Check-in 7:30 – 8:30AM
Players Meeting – 8:30 – 8:45AM
Round start 9-9:10AM

Divisions
Advanced
Intermediate
Parent/Youth (16 or younger)

Alternate Women’s/Youth’s tees on multiple holes
Teams must take women’s\youth’s drive on at least 4 holes
Team that takes the most women’s\youth’s drives will win prize

multiple CTP's included with entry fee
$2 Ace fund (50/50 split; throw off if no Aces are hit)
Putting contest
Accuracy Contest (one throw included in tourney fee...additiomal throws $1 per throw, $2 for 3 throws, $3 for 5 throws, $5 for 8 throws)

After round everyone meet for awards and cookout at pavilion. GDGO will provide hot dogs (and fixins'), Chips, & Watermellon for all entrants. Feel free bring your own meat to throw in the grill if you prefer something other than hot dogs.
Event should end by 1:30-2PM so everyone can enjoy their labor day with family.

I'm contemplating coming but $30 is a bit pricey for unsanctioned play. Otherwise I like the idea.

That price is per team.
This is an annual fundraiser event for the GDGO. Payouts are not huge, but the funds are put to good use. Here are some of the things the GDGO was able to accomplish because of last year's tournament.
• Purchase and install a practice basket at Alexander Park!
• Obtain and install distance markers for the Alexander Practice Basket
• Purchase and install distance markers for the Lenora Practice Basket
• Buy materials and construct Lost and Found boxes (now installed at both parks)
• Sponsor a recycle bin for Alexander Park
• Installed broom holders at Alexander and Lenora Park
• Bought and installed 5 new pin placements at Lenora

That'd be a great idea for a "mixed" doubles fundraising event. Offering prizes for more than just CTPs.

Updated the inital post to indicate the GDGO will provide hot dogs, chips, etc for the cookout after the round.

Barry, Amanda Bennett might be available...I don't have her contact info but she played in the Ariel Armada and her brothers play in Craigs kids league so there are ways to get a hold of her.

Vicki, Ed, Steve and Mickey: thanks for a fun tournament. We had a blast. The alternate women's tees were great. Hope you managed to raise some money for additional foliage at Lenora!

We had a great time too. Hope to see some of you folks out at our free mixed doubles and our free womens doubles in the future too. Womens dubs winners each get a disc and we have some sweet ctps too...all for free.

I was at Big Lots off of Grayson Hwy today and they have Magnolias a little bigger than the ones at Alex for sale...I did not see a price but since it is big lots I bet they are pretty cheap...I know you want bigger trees but these might be too cheap to pass up.

Magnolias are extremely slow growers. Leyland Cypress would be a good way to go...

Magnolias = longterm = Better shaped tree, bigger, and more character. If they live in the right conditions, they can grow pretty quickly. Plus, this isn't a hedge row so you can pee outside without your neighbor watching. It's a d-golf course with some southern charm.

Lenora actually has some Magnolias trees. (near hole #1 and practice basket) My guess is that they were planted about the same time the park went in, say 1995. From my most recent memory (this past Monday) I don't really recall them being that big, nor real able to provide shade, or for that matter being a great obstacle if they had been placed on the golf course. So while I don't know how big they were when they went in I'm willing to bet that new magnolias, purchased at big lots, probably wouldn't grow much taller than the current ones (which grew in the same enviroment) in about 15 years time.

I'm not sure if Gwinnett has a tree nursery. We are restricted by their list of approved trees though. I haven't seen it yet, but hopefully one of the above trees, or something else suitable, will be on it.

We have a river birch next to our house...a great tree for a dg course...branches hang low and would annoy the hell out of players...also thick and most likely inpenetrable.

Back to the tournament....

Wanted to thank Ed, Vicki & Steve for putting this on.

Had a great time, event was extremely fun and the lunch was awesome.

Got to play in a group with Bill & Christy and their daughter. If 1/2 the putts these guys hit metal on had gone in they would of kicked all our butts.
Really enjoyed their company for the day at Lenora and hope to get my wife out to play more than once a year.

Watch out! After this tournament we have been throwing a minimum 100 putts a day, tired of hitting metal.

We had a blast with you guys too, your wife is a good player, it would be cool to see her out more.
