PPIC IV PDGA C-Tier 17-18 July 2010

July 17-18th - PPIC IV - Deerlick Park - Douglasville, GA

The PPIC is in full effect and sanctioned. This year will be a 2-day C-tier. Less money has to come
out for the PDGA that way. I will allow the recreational division this year as it broke my heart that
Wade couldn't play. The discs this year will probably just be Rocs and Aviars. I've had extremely good
luck with the Aviars over the past few years with them being extraordinary. Sign up will be available soon.

Recreational and junior divisions will be playing the Wade Selph layout. All other divisions will be playing the long tees.

Tournament central and awards ceremony will be around the corner from hole 8 near the parking lot for the skateboard park.

Two meter rule is in effect and no OB line between holes 1 and 2.
Pro, Int, and Adv. fields (pool A) play from all long tees.
Rec and Jr (pool B) play from Wade Selph layout which is short 3,7,8,11,14,15,16,17,18 and regular tees on the rest.

Wow, thats big of you for someone who had 47 cut-throughs in 4 rounds of golf at PPIC 3! The only things wrong with The Lick are the baskets(which single-chains are better than no chains!) and a random late tree(or 2) in the fairway or close to the basket.

It is harder to run a tournament with multiple courses than it is to run on a single course. Usually, a tournament that is a "must go" is more because of the way it is run than the course it is on. More people and added cash isnt the huge factor it used to be. It is nice sure, but not the be all and end all. I really dont know of anyone who will question Grease's ability to run an event well, maybe if you stuck around to the end of one you would know that

This is real important: the recreational division will be for 1st -3rd trophy only. They will be bigger trophies than everyone
else, but in the nature of competition vs. recreation, I thought this would work out.

Yeah I quit. I called the TD Sunday morning and let him know that I wouldn't be showing up for my final round. A little more graceful than quitting 3 holes into a tournament. I didn't cause a scene by displaying a tantrum and throwing multiple discs all over the course. Not justifying my quitting a tournament. Just saying that some could do it with a little more class.

Well, for the first time in a long time I realized that enough was enough. Plus I made it home in time to watch the final round of the Masters.

When you are really working hard and putting massive amounts into a game and it's not working sometimes it can be more than one can handle. Clearly you misread what I said or have problems with reading comprehension. Quitting every tournament you play in has nothing to do with what I just said. I could see it possibly happening once or twice a year for someone that plays 30 or more tournaments. Any more than that is clearly something else.

No horse in the race because even though my rating is low enough to play NOV I always choose REC but look at tourneys in TN and at Meeks park.

Agreed, if you care about performance it can happen. This is my take:

Playing in threesome
w/Rachel and Sarah (Sorry Ladies)

now,
I did not throw a tantrum,
I was physically and mentally at the bottom of my game,
I did walk the round with them while they finished
and at that moment I would have picked-up no matter who I was playing with (I don't discriminate)

BUT all this being said ...

We just got back from Deer Lick...what a beat down.

Highlight was Christy's deuce on 10 from the longs. 60' thumber roller that hit the little ramp before the basket and flew right in, still completely vertical and stuck, we both looked at each other like

Might as well, Gomez is playing open I'm saving my Advanced debut for Hotlanta if I can get in. Otherwise, I'll be scrambling eggs to earn some Primo Plastic dollars for my next disc fix. Barry is a division hopper like Vern anyway. Which hurts more: Me beating you in Advanced or playing the same tees with a lower score in Intermediate? The sting should feel about the same! I might just see you and Hugh in MA1

I was at the course today. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the dirt piles on 16 are not going to be an issue. I thew from them twice and the footing is much better than last year. The ground is way more solid. The only concern would be footing due to the slope, but in all honesty you will have just as good of a run-up as you will normally have on your second shot on hole three. Barring a second flood I would not expect anyone to have to worry about sinking in the mud this year.

Rec and Jr (pool B) play from Wade Selph layout which is short 3,7,8,11,14,15,16,17,18 and regular tees on the rest.

Dollar has managed to clone himself in his basement laboratory (pronounced la-bora-tory). He hasn't perfected the process yet,though. Sub-Dollar will be playing South Carolina. Sub-Dollar came out less than perfect with one green eye and one wooden eye with an eagle carved on it, one leg shorter than the other(he tends to walk in circles a lot), and a severe drooling problem that causes him to spray when he talks. Plus, he only speaks French. Look for these trait if you think it's regular Dollar and aren't sure when you play South Carolina this weekend.

Just curious: some of the 1st place awards for amateur divisions is $200 and over. I know it takes a long time to pick out $200+ worth of discs, so I was offering the option of a Ching Chainmaster basket + whats left over. Just putting feelers out there and will go with the general consensus. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the input. Also, looking for someone on the West side of town who would volunteer to pick up and transport the spaceship. It would involve coming to my house initially to pick it up, breaking it down and carrying it away Saturday, and bringing it back to my house after the tourney Sunday. I have a tentative agreement to get it there, but the person who is helping me with it would be slightly inconvenienced. Help would be appreciated and rewarded(private stash). yep, powder springs was fine and it was sunny the whole way home. I have a feeling that the guy pushing to have the round called was clinging onto one of the last cash spots in his division and not having a very good 4th round I was well on my way to creeping back into the cash when that round was called (it didnt rain another drop or shoot lightning after that initial strike when play was being resumed). No one can fault Grease though. He did the best he could with a crappy situation. Damn lightning just had to strike one more time and ruin it for everyone. Still had an awesome time. Thanks as always to Grease for running a great tournament. Cant wait to play again next year

Well, sorry about the weather. The guy that had radar on his phone DID have the movement of the clouds and there were small cells popping up everywhere over Douglasville. It has been and is still raining here just 15 minutes North. It was hard to call it with that sun shining on us, but mother nature let us know that she wasn't quite done with the lightning and I can't take a chance of someone getting hurt. I would like to see the TD that makes a decision with 70 players torn in 4 directions barking at him in a similar situation that satisfies 100% of the field. I tried.

Fourth round was canceled when several large thunderstorms appeared in the area. Hole 8 was covered in water the low point so much that is made it unsafe and unfair to the other competitors to play.

I did notice that the ratings are WAY off, but adjusted everything as far as I could tell. Everyone except rec and jr are playing a par 56 course for 3 rounds. I can't figure out where the error is.

You need to go into ratings tab of the Tournament admin and set each division there round by round for all 3 rounds and then the results will be accurate.

The ratings are from the same layouts with mostly the same players and looking at the same scores they are off this year by 70+ points.

They do normally, but since there was only 1 true prop and 3 rounds I don't know if they'll be able to combine enough data to make it work - time will tell as next update is Aug 22nd.

By the way at this time - 11:47AM - only pro divisions even have scores listed and everyone else has nothing.

Possible explanations:
-Maybe we get jacked on the ratings so much, they finally wanted to hook us up!
-Maybe Grease figured out a way to manipulate the ratings and now the PPIC will sell out quicker than Lake Russell.
-Maybe we get and extra 70PPR (points per round) for playing in an IT(Intergalactic Tour) level event.
-Maybe the flood on hole 8 washed away the real scores, and Grease is doing it from memory.

You need 5 props for unofficial ratings and at least 3 props within two or more rounds for an official rating. With only one prop in this event, no rating will be given.

Scores for everyone are back up with ratings for everyone except REC and JR Divisions - Ratings are still way off - 30-40 points minimum compared to the last 2 Events there in the last 9 months - there is NO WAY under any conditions that an even par 56 is a 1000 rated round there now, when it was a 951 rated round 7 months ago.

Hopefully when the ratings are done officially they will be corrected.

I am not sure what the problem is but I figured I would list my calculations.

This is for the first round... The scores are in order of placement. This is calculated by total score and not by hole by hole scores so it still could be off a little. I also did not check to make sure all rated players were props and included everyone with a rating. I may do the other two rounds tomorrow.

I've re-entered scores four times(not fun), added round entries twice, and still can't figure out why the ratings are jacked. The only thing I think it may be is there is a "finals" round listed in the report that is checked and I can't uncheck it. So, maybe ratings are based on four rounds vs three? I don't know. But, hey, scores are up and ratings look real good for now.

Paying for sanctioning and getting reports submitted are 2 different things.

Greg had 30 days to submit the TD report, which the ratings are pulled from (the online posted scores are NOT used for ratings) and the deadline for TD Reports to be included in the AUGUST 31st ratings was Aug 17th.

So if the TD report was NOT submitted by then they will be in the next update in OCT.

You would need to ask Greg if the TD Report was submitted before the deadline.
