Requests for Non-Sanctioned/other Events for 2010

As was done for 2009, I am asking again that as much as possible it would be nice to see these dates chosen to NOT conflict with PDGA events, but to set up a calendar for 2010, I would like to have an idea of dates and / or months for events so that solutions or work arounds can be handled to try and keep everyone as happy as possible and keep date conflicts to a minimum please.

Again please post dates in this thread, pm me and I'll post them for everyone to see.

ANY Event can be added if somebody asks me to add it - It is extremely difficult to know what is going on at all the GA courses if nobody posts anything about it.

That is the reason I have these 2 threads (NON and Sanctioned Events) - so that TD's and Players can see what is already listed or to make their requests.

Gwinnett County Parks and Rec are hosting their "Team Challenge" disc golf tournament on 5/15 at Alexander Park. It's 4 person teams (2 dubs teams, combining scores at the end) and will be mostly corporate/family players. Trophy only. The GDGO has been asked to help run the event, but I'm not sure what sign-up requirements will be.

I'm not even sure we should put it on the events calendar as it's really not directed toward tourney players. The park will be closed that day, however.

That kind of sucks that there are 2 events in Gwinnett on the same day. It's kind of hard to go and support the women if all the guys are playing a team event just down the road.

i agree. The Park has apparently had this on their calendar since last year, but we just found out about it. I'll see Bill Balanger tomorrow so if he doesn't see this, I'll ask him about it.. If he could push his back a week, he might get some participation from the corporate players, as we could present his event at that one.

We're going to explore having a mini-tournament in the afternoon after the last day of the camp (July 14) but it'll be campers only -- there's no way to have a full-day event at ERP and keep the entry fee low enough for a juniors event without a significant sponsorship commitment, which we don't have.

I feel bad that I wouldn't combine it with mine but I really didn't want to give the impression of hey drop your kids off in the woods because there will be a bunch of women to watch them and you can go to the bar or something.

Will give it some thought. There were just lots of factors in play. I've got my plate full with taking Ari to Am Worlds and running the camp between now and mid-July, and didn't see how I could devote enough time and energy to it to be able to raise enough sponsorship funds to keep from taking a bath on it personally if I took on the responsibility, especially with such a short lead time -- that's definitely not one of my strong points.

And I completely agree with you about not trying to combine it with your women's event -- was just spitballing ideas but realized that was a bad one as soon as we discussed it.

What: Pre-Halloween Full Moon Howler
When: October 23 and 24, 2010; Tee off at 10 a.m.
Where: Jim Akins' and Brock Woodall's private courses in Ellijay,Ga
This non-sanctioned , no cost event is for the disc golfer that is looking for something unique and fun to do for a weekend. Tee off will be at 10:00 a.m. and will begin the day with lots of golf and all of the side action you would want to create.
Camping out on Jim's property is encouraged. A party, cookout, and bonfire is on the agenda for the evening.
Next day, 22 miles away, another day of disc golf at Brock's.

Basically, this is some hand-me-down info from the Morgan Co Parks & Rec site to promote the new disc golf course in Rutledge at Indian Creek Park. I played it last Saturday and enjoyed it pretty well. Reminds me a bit of East Roswell and, as others have told me, a few of the holes in Appling.

I know this tournament is conflicting with a couple of others going on around and outside the ATL. It would still be good to have a nice turnout if possible. I'd like to be there, but I was originally leaning towards Jim and Brock's tournament in Ellijay on that same weekend. Or else, I could be out of town on business - not sure yet. Anyhow, just pass this around to some folks out there who would be interested in playing at Indian Creek that day. Don't know if it's 1 or 2 rounds, but call either numbers below for more info.

The Morgan County Recreation Department is excited to offer our first Disc Golf Tournament at the Rotary Club’s Disc Golf Course at Indian Creek Park in Rutledge. The format will be individual stroke play. Discs can be purchased at the Recreation Departments main office at 1253 College Dr. This will be a fun and learning experience for most likely everyone.
