As always, we are looking for hole sponsors and I'm trying to get some artwork together for some fund raiser discs that will be a very limited run.

2 rounds of 19 holes both days

Will use all pin placements available

Mixed divisions to start on first round

Early check in at Friday dubs at 3pm (Nov 9th)

The 2 meter rule will be in effect

I like the picture better unaltered. I really don't like labelling it as Redan hole # 1. Anyone who has been there will recognize it. I didn't know the guy but I have known other artists and I've never met one who liked having people change their work. I'm not trying to be a dick but you asked for thoughts.

THe original artwork is GREAT. I agree with those who said NOT to label the hols as Redan #1. The artwork already SAYS that to those who know the course .. and others don't need to know. I'd also make "Squirrelfest ..." SMALL .. along the bottom in a straight line or something. LET THE ARTWORK shine!

I say, put the crazy squirrel design small on the front breast and the Warner piece big on the back of a shirt. Then the crazy squirrel should be put on the tourney disc. I like both designs, they are great! I think Jim's should be left unaltered. That's what i think!

I would just put a giant roaring T-Rex in the tennis court barfing up a prehistoric squirrel (like the one in Ice Age) and have Squirrelfest V spelled out in the blood and viscera that the T-Rex is hurling! I do not think Jim would mind...if it was done tastefully!!??

Well, i was talking about Gomez(assuming Gomez is mr. disc). You are a Latina, so you get a free pass. Mexican women are gorgeous and wouldn't break into cars. Gomez would, and i think he might be the one moonlighting as a thief at Redans parking lot. He likes to remind everybody about the breakins so much, i think he might be the culprit. I have decided not to molest Jim's artwork (not that I would have anyway)
but feel the need to say so.

I have decided to put the artwork of hole #1 on a fund raiser disc that I hope to get ordered very soon, the black border will be enlarged and some tastefully done wording will be placed within the border depicting the tourney name and date (requirement), this will be done with the Supercolor procees from Discraft and think that it will compliment Jim's work well.

I will also be using Jim's artwork on a t-shirt that will be of a very limited # as they will be for our Premium sponsors. There is a map of Redan that he did a long time ago and we have used it in past Squirrel event programs that I think will be awesome on a t-shirt.

I'm with Randy on this one as far as t-shirt design goes. That old mean and gnarly suirrel is hard to beat. Last year's Squirrel Fest t-shirt is one of my favorites from a tournament. Jim's artwork is good for any t-shirt, disc, and/or sponsor/player package item as well.

I like when players have the option of purchasing t-shirts from tournaments when they aren't included in the players pack...as long as the shirts are not sleeveless. Did I mention I like t-shirts?

Scott, I see that the hole sponsorships are $25, but how much are the premium sponsorships? (Also, have you decided to definitely use the Jim Warner artwork for the fundraiser disc? -- Will they be available separately from the premium sponsorships??) I'm pretty sure that I'll play in the tournament, but even if I am unable to make it, I'll want to sponsor at some level. (And, I know how convenient the online registration is, but I'll probably just send you a check for the whole amount -- entry + sponsorship -- once I figure out what I'll be doing.)

The "Premium Sponsorship" is set at $100.00. I'm working on getting the Jim Warner artwork useable for the Supercolor process with Dusty's help of course. Right now I'm thinking that I will have a very small amount of these disc's available only to the prem. sponsors due to the fact that Gutt is working on getting his own disc ready as a fund raiser and I dont want to flood the market prior to his release date.

We are looking at about 1-2 weeks for the new JW discs. The artwork is really cool. One stamp will be a full color Ching style stamp on Rocs and DX Big Beads. The other design will be a foil stamp on Champion Wraiths with a few "extra special" discs available to lucky recipients.

BTW, Scott is awesome and get your entries in! (See, shameless JW plug followed by a nice SF plug! That's how I roll!)

A portion of each disc sale will go towards the Jim Warner fund and the rest will go directly into payout for the tourney. I will be at Redan on Sunday for PNUT Dub's and will have them available for you all to drool on and purchase or purchase and then drool on, but , I wouldnt throw them , they are just too nice to risk damaging.
The price for these sweet disc's will be set at $25.00
I only have a very limited number of these disc's and I will be holding a portion of these back for my "Premium Sponsors" so if you want to make sure that you get one of these please concider becomming "Premium Sponsor". I would like to ask everybody to pitch in and help pick up the trash in the mulch that the parks people have donated to the park. Not asking for anybody to be a hero and pick it all up, but maybe take a plastic bag with you and spend 10 minutes to help out the course the next time you are there. I am sure Scott will be scheduling a clean up day soon.

I would like to ask for as many volunteers as possible to come to a clean up day at Redan on Sunday 21 OCT.

We will get started at 8am and I would like to get in a few hours of work before breaking for lunch and then a round of PNUT Dubs.

I dont know of anything major that has to be done out there but there is alot of trash in the mulch that has been put on some of the fairways. So bring a stick with a nail on the end and I'll have some bags.

I will get some burgers and dogs for those that wish to help !!

To avoid a conflict with the Primo Plastic Intergallactic Championship, the cleanup day previously scheduled for 10/21 has been moved to the following Sunday - 10/28. We are still planning to start at 8 AM. Please bring the usual implements of destruction - blowers, rakes, etc and don't forget the most important item for sorting through the mulch - the nail on a stick.

As Scott posted earlier, we will have free food and beverages for all volunteers at around noon followed by Pnut doubles.

Sorry Chris but I have to correct you on this one - Mike Dammes has had a patent on the words SOLD OUT for many years - probably since this board started. So your notice would have to be listed as UNOFFICIAL.

Just a reminder - In preparation for SquirrelFest, a cleanup day has been scheduled for this Sunday, October 28th starting at 8 AM. I know everybody will be recovering from Fright Flight but please get your butts out of bed and give us a hand.

We also still have 6 or 7 pinpositions to replace as well as other cleanup projects so bring your blowers, clippers, rakes, shovels, PHD's and other implements of destruction and help make Redan beautiful again.

There will be a free lunch around noon for all volunteers followed by Pnut doubles! See you there.

The first round positions have not all been set yet, hopefully the positions will be set sometime soon.

Redan has always been famous for drawing a great group of helpers and a tourney that uses all of the available pin positions just would not happen without the help from all of the great people that play there.

I am willing to deliver them to your home for $100 a piece, plus travel expenses, food allowance, delivery fee, and any toll fees. I estimate each one will cost you around $700.00 and there is no discount if you buy more than one. So just come to Redan and buy a hand full on Friday afternoon and save the delivery charges. Once you see them you will want one or two.

Here’s an update on several SquirrelFest items. Early check-in will be from 1:30 to 3:00 PM on Friday.

At 3:00 PM we will pick ‘em for SquirrelFest Doubles. The cost will be $15 and that includes $5 worth of reachable CTP’s – Hole 16 will be a $2 for 1 special just like on Sundays.

You can also sign up for side action for the whole weekend on Friday (or on Saturday). Side action will be a total of $10 which includes 5 - $1 reachable CTP’s (3 Saturday and 2 Sunday) and a $5 ace fund. In the unlikely event of no tournament aces, half of the ace fund will go to the Warner Fund and we will have a 1 shot “clot if not” throw off on hole 1 immediately after round 4.

Including the previously mentioned cash CTP’s, there will be a total of 38 CTP’s this weekend at SquirrelFest. All CTP’s will be one round only as very few baskets stay in one place very long. Please retrieve all CTP markers after each round and bring them to tournament central. All CTP's (except Cash CTP's at Friday Doubles) will be paid out at the award ceremonies at Los Colinas. Please don't ask to collect a CTP early at the park.

Check–in on Saturday will begin at 7:30 and end at 9:15. Anybody not checked in by 9:15 am Saturday will lose their slot (without a refund) and we will begin filling those slots from the waiting list. ALL PLAYERS MUST CHECK-IN BEFORE 9:15 ON SATURDAY OR THEY WILL LOSE THEIR SPOT IN SQUIRRELFEST.

Following check-in there will be a players meeting at 9:30 and a 10:00 am start.

Contrary to what the SquirrelFest flyer says – the two meter rule will not be in effect this weekend.

EARLY START ON SUNDAY!!!
The first round on Sunday will start at 8:30 – Don’t be late; it’s hard to recover from 7’s on the holes you miss.

if we are playing 19 holes with 5 people per group and the majority of players are ams, int, etc.....won't this be a 4 hour round. Then with 1 hour lunch break we won't start till 3 pm and only get to play 12 holes in daylight/dusk.

Here's the format for the weekend per tournament staff members. The first round will be mixed groups per tradition and that round will be the longest in distance. Hopefully, there will be limited back-ups since the groups will be relatively equal. We've been working on the order of divisions for the other three rounds to minimize the impact of back-ups in one area of the whole field by seperating divisions that tend to play slower due to the number of shots in each group of five players.

Per PDGA guidelines, players will play within their divisions for the final three rounds but the order of divisions will be seperated to prevent slower divisions from being back to back. Also, each round will be shorter in distance each round and that will help with the total time. By analyzing the number of players per division, there COULD be 5 cards with Pro players then 1 card with Am women following 4 cards of Adv. Ams following 1 card of Juniors following 3 cards of Adv Masters following 5 cards of Intermediate players.

That means the last group of intermediate players will be behind the first card of Pro Open players. By spacing the divisions this way, we hope to reduce the time for the whole field to complete.

Subject to changes, the plan is for the second round to start the Pro Open division on hole 1 and last card of Intermediate on hole 19 with Juniors starting on hole 10. Odd man out in some divisions will be grouped in other divisions and to the best of our ability we will limit the number of players who will play on cards outside the division. At this time, there are 21 Adv Ams which means one player will be assigned to a card in another division, preferable Am Masters except for there are 15 players in that division so the last player in Adv Am will be assigned to another division, maybe Women maybe Intermediate. That will depend on comparable scores. The odd players out would be placed by score in the other division.

Saturday will be the critical day for finishing before dark. Players will need to manage their groups to keep pace. 3 minutes for a lost disc, putting out with other players' permission, clearing putting greens before writing scores and reteeing quickly. All these factors are within the players' ability to control how long the rounds take.

Starting the second round can only occur after all the cards are turned in and the baskets moved. Delays in this area will be very costly and it is possible that some groups have less time for lunch. Par will be 57 with 19 holes. Please make a note of it to others.

I expect the first round to take 3 to 3.5 hours. Second round could start as early as 2:30 which gives us 3 to 3.5 hours to complete before dark.

Personally, I'm not going to worry about it until Saturday at 5:30pm when the sun is setting.

How about on some holes (15, 4?, 8?), when baskets are in the long positions, groups that throw shorter and know they won't interfere should tee off while the preceding group is putting out? If you like the idea, mention it at the player's meeting.

Is it possible to play the longer layouts on Sunday when we tee-off at 8:30 versus Saturday when we tee-off at 10?
The players can control SOME issues of the speed of play, but the course length is something they CAN'T control.

It WILL BE DARK at 5:30 on Saturday which means a 2:30 2nd round tee-off will definately have most players finish in the dark :roll:

I'm sure this post means I'll end up playing with the juniors and new players as punishment for speaking up, but since it is still 2 days away, there is time to adjust the course and it could be announced that Saturday's layout will be played Sunday and vice-versa. I will offer to move ALL 18 baskets myself, if needed to help out in this endeavor.

I'm honestly not trying to cause issues, but I'm confident that most players feel that they would like to play ALL of their rounds in the daylight, and would NOT object to playing the longer layouts on sunday when there is the most daylight available.

On timeliness:

Some of the biggest delays I've seen this year have occurred while getting players to "BRING IT IN" and sit down and shut-up for the players meeting. Don't practice hitting the gap on 12 until you are summoned by a horn or someone yelling. Check in on time, warm up, take a seat at 9:25, and if staff isn't ready to roll right on the dot at 9:30 (highly unlikely) consider the extra two or three minutes of mental preparation and Rockstar consumption a gift.

To respond to this so perceptions DO NOT become realities, Squirrelfest 5 was NOT an ADGO run, or fundraiser tournament.

The member event on Dec. 2nd is being funded with ADGO memberships, and donations from ADGO members only, not from ANY tournaments.

ADGO BOD members helped with the different aspects of the event, but Scott was the TD, and as far as I am aware, the ONLY person that can answer your questions about the payouts.

I’m sorry about not responding sooner but I am working very long hours and have to be back at work at 3 AM tomorrow morning. I have spoken to Paul and we realize that we only added $150 in cash to the pro payout and the PDGA requires $250 added for a B tier event. We didn’t realize this late Saturday night and made a mistake. The one hundred dollars will be added to the pro payout and the TD report re-submitted. Checks for the difference will be mailed to the affected pro players as soon as possible. I apologize to everyone involved and hope you understand that this was an honest mistake.

That was a nicely coached response, Scott! I believe that, honestly, you are being railroaded and were told to post that. It's funny that the resolution is exactly the same one that Jay Voss told me may happen when I spoke to him on Tuesday.

Here's what I know:

There were 10 premium sponsors at $100= $1000
There were also hole sponsors at $25=$100 removing product sponsors

AM payout was $1607 ( I had to add it up to fill out the vouchers)
I added $20 of that to make the Int. 1-3 spots make sense(Scott did offer to make up the difference, but I added it to help him out )
1-3 Int. all got $35 until I made it $50,$40,$35

Pro payout should have been around $1750 not including any added cash.

As the payout for any Squirrel tournament has traditionally favored the am field, I seriously doubt the missing $900(give or take, maybe MORE) was added to the pro side.

So, please provide numbers to prove or disprove that there was a major discrepancy in the payout.

I am taking this risk to kill all payout that I could possibly receive from future Squirrel events because it is very important to me that TD's uphold their responsibilities and take care of the players that enter their events.

BTW, I have copied this to my email, so if it is deleted, I will keep reposting it until actual and believable explanations are given.

I don't really want to get in the middle of this, but when doing the math you guys need to take into account the fact that the premium sponsors got merchandise in return (maybe you're already taking this into account .. it wasn't clear from what I've read). I don't know what that stuff costs, but it is not free. So, a $100 Premium sponsorship does not add $100 to the purse.

I didn't get a hug! I guess it wasn't a guarantee. :cry:

The T-shirt cost about $7.00, the Supercolor Disc about $10.00, and the Color Max Disc about $7.00. $24.00 + shipping. Probably $27.00 per sponsor in merch cost, of course that's if the ColorMax's weren't purchased with sponsorship "D-Dollars".

Chris, sorry you didn't get your hug, but you don't count cost instead of retail value when doing the payout, because in theory the players can NOT buy it for those prices.

Other TD's know the #'s and how they work, which is why when things don't look right these posts happen. :shock:

It does get shown both ways on the TD report.

You'll find out all this with your tour next year. :wink:

I wasn't referring to the AmPayout, I was referring to what amount was subtracted from each Premium Sponsorship to supply the sponsors with their goodies. Sponsor gifts aren't included in the TD report..are they? I just figured the actual sponsorship would be the original sponsorship amount less any costs for sponsor perks.

There have been questions regarding the Squirrelfest payout and the distribution of added cash. Let me begin to answer those questions by reminding everybody that there are costs associated with putting on a PDGA event. Sponsor cash is used in part to defray some of these costs such as sanctioning fees, insurance, signage, trophies, shirts, ice, player packs, spnosor packs and other items. In the case of Squirrelfest, the remainder of available added cash was added to the pro and am payouts based roughly on the source of the cash. There were pro open sponsors and pro grandmaster sponsors so cash was added to those divisions. There were advanced and advanced master sponsors so cash was added to those divisions. There was very little sponsorship cash from the other divisions so little or no sponsorship cash was added to those divisions. There were 3 pro premium sponsors and there were 6 am premium sponsors.

The total net pro entry totaled $1736. With the additional $100 added to the pro payout, the pro payout totals $1985. So $249 was added. There were also trophy discs and plaques awarded to the Pro's but their cost or value is not shown here.The total net am entry totaled $2007. The total am event value including payout, player packs, and trophies comes out to $2885. There were also over 30 CTP packages given out but their value is not shown here. As with all Squirrel Events a donation has been made to the Warner fund. The Warner donation was $200.

Scott is a great TD and holds the interest of local disc golf near and dear. The payout discrepencies have been addressed and may or may not answer all questions. I think Scott has always done a great job with his tournaments and this possible oversight should not reflect upon him.

I went to the Augusta Classic this weekend, an event that almost didnt happen. Scotty O stepped up to run this event with VERY little before the tourny. we saw dusty bitch about no flyer and not being able to pay online.

Since it was thrown together, not much sponsership was achieved, but enough to add what is REQUIRED.

So, how in the hell did the Augusta CLassic, with less pro players, the SAME entry fee, and NO "premium sponsers", Pay out more than SF?
