Week 1 - 3.18.09
Excellent weather and good 1st turnout. Full basket setup on 15-hole, par 53. Action was $11 total. Park packed with people...and the creek was flowing.

Here's how the weekly league is gonna work:
*$11 = $5 action, 3x$1 CTP, 1x$2 CTP and $1 toward end of season handicap playoffs.
*League runs from Wed March 18th - last Wed in August (24 weeks).
*To qualify for the playoffs in September, you must play in 33% of the weekly events (at least .
*Only paid action rounds count toward the 8 rounds
*I'll be taking ~10% of the pay-in to stoke the playoff pot, so expecting $400+ based on last year. $11 in the 1st week.

Playoffs -- month of September:
*There are 5 weeks in September. You must play in at least 3 events in September to be eligible for any $$ in the playoff.
*This will be a handicapped event -- so whoever shoots the best compared to their normal level of play.
*I will apply a handicap to the average of your best 3 rounds in September....based on all qualifying rounds adjusted for outliers.
*Payout is per usual %'s.

Changes for next week -- #10 reverts to traditional par 4; #13 becomes more of a par 5 with the basket going higher on the hill

13 turnout, 11 paid in on action, thanks Matt from idaho for joining us. played the same 15 hole layout as last time with ample daylight. nice weather -- high 60s, light wind, warm & dry with overcast skies. thanks josh for helping run the action.

Ritger aces hole 1! alas, no ace fund. #13 played as a tough par 5....this is the best spot it's been in yet, IMHO, and makes a better par 5 than #10.

next week: same time, same place, 15+ holes.....i'm thinking about setting up the full 18 at least monthly if not twice/month -- we could start @ 5?

19 turnout, 13 paid. nice weather - sunny, mid 60's, beautiful day - windy, park crowded.

played 16 hole layout with hole 4 -- same as icebowl layout except 2 & 3...and a forgotten basket made #10 a par 4.5. looking at moving the par 5's basket down the hill to bring it into view on #13....and playing a shorter position on #11 as that was too far.

the # system makes sense, there is now a hole 13! holes 6-12 have all bumped up 1 b/c of the new numbering system.

scott -- your entire card's score was off by 3, so you shouldn't have cashed. i screwed up your ctp payout too...see the sheet...basically i overpaid you by $8.50. you can pay back next week or i'll take it out of future winnings, whatever works.

same time next week; starting at 5:30 SHARP, show up to signin by 5:20. probably do 18 hole setup in 2 weeks.

15 turnout - 2 paid, 3 non paid, 2 randoms, a bunch of dogwalkers, 1 cute girl, 1 group of thugs getting searched by red dog cops, a bunch of kids... several interested neighbors. Windy & chilly.

Played 15 hole layout (no short 4) as we had 15 baskets. Justin easily shreds with monster drives (75' from #9 basket is 525'!)

Next week - 18 hole full course layout, par 63...need baskets, so bring 'em if you got 'em. - Starting earlier b/c more holes >> signin starts 4:45, signin by 5, teeoff @ 5:15 sharp. Let me know if you're running late by 5pm....678.641.9768 is my cell.

22 turnout - biggest ever! 18 paid, 3 udgc, 1 ctp only. also saw at least 4 casuals playing so nearly 30 people. absolutely perfect weather -- sunny, 70, kinda windy. played 18 holes with no problems starting @ 5:15 and most groups done by 7:45. plenty of baskets.

Scores sheet in top post is updated.

i dig the switch on ctps -- 5 seperate to include some 2nd shot CTPs, will do this again. hole 13 finally found the right pin spot.

i'm thinking that playing 18 every week would be much better than playing 16.....so....

23 turn out, 21 paid...new record! and baskets to spare! 9 new paying players, glad to see the new faces. more perfect weather...80 & no wind. park was crowded with casuals in the non-permanent holes area, but nobody hit. creek running orange/brown highly toxic opaque disc eating fluid, multiple discs left in it including one of my aviars.

Keith>we tried moving 18's basket to the right...about 30' right of the current right position in the 3rd gap (2 gaps right of mando)...played harded as more tried to throw sidearm & missed the mando.

played 18 in traditional right spot....tried a new spot for #8, tucked in to the right in front of the fireplace....good spot for it.

Same layout as last week with 8 in right position in front of fireplace. Threatened rain but only a few drops, really pretty nice weather. Scoring file is updated. I'm messing with the handicaps so the file may get updated...going to look at handicapping vs SSA instead of vs Par

big turnout... 19 show + 2 casuals (incl one Capitol view resident!)...18 baskets...16 paid in on action, 6 in on bonus action, 11 in ace fund, 1 basket bag urinated on (hopefully by a dog). nice weather in lows 90s, no chance of rain, creek running clear. mccoy takes $55 with a 55. played usual setup except 12 very long ~20' off OB line, 10 & 13 each had own baskets...10 played a bit too long around the corner. somehow #3 was the easiest hole on the course, go figure.

6 more weeks of league. 20 that can possibly vest for playoffs during september. playoff pot looking like ~$450!

handicaps are locked. playoffs start next week. i'm gone to iowa for work, so justin/woody gonna cover action. we will have regular action during playoffs, minus the $1 to the playoffs. playoffs will be tracked & paid out after the 5th wednesday in september.

Week 25: 20 in on action, 5-6 non-action... 26 players!! 18 baskets, great weather. (Biggest week??)

McCoy snakes 2nd (56) $20, takes $10 in extra action and also snakes a CTP by skipping off the old electrical pole on hole 7

detailed stats & update on playoff standings will be posted after next week, then i'll resume being current with it; i'm going out of town tomorrow & need to pack tonight.

week 26> 13 paid in action, 3 more on CTPs only, 4 casuals = 20 people. had enough baskets but metal ones got there too late so ended up being short one ... so had to do stacked start ...

to explain confusion on #13, there was no basket on #13 to begin the round so it was assumed that #10/#13 would share a basket (as they typically do). a basket was moved there after ~9 holes by the 2nd group to play it. group #2 didn't tell group 3 that they changed the layout, & group 3 played to #10 basket before seeing that #13 position was setup. the basket was put there as group 2 played the hole, so it hadn't been there 5 minutes before when everyone played 10 & looked @ the positions (which aren't visible from the tee).

so, group 1 played to #10 position, group 2 to #13, group 3 to #10, group 4 & 5 to ?? .... hole was thrown out as the layout was changed mid-round and multiple groups played the hole differently. sorry to anybody (plotky & josh) that felt screwed, but that was the only fair way to play it. we've played to a shared position more weeks than not -- probably 15 weeks this year out of 26, and never setup a 2nd basket to split the holes mid-round before.

scores below are out of 17 holes (no 13). handicaps will be factored by the #of holes played / 18 holes. so if we play 18, factor = 1 (18/18). since we played 17, factor = .944 (17/18).

late update b/c comcast sucks!

wed 9.16.09: 11 turned out despite the 100% chance of rain, including a visitor from san fran CA, made it 9 holes before getting hit with a deluge & cancelling mid round. pretty amazing water in the creek -- 1-2 feet from the top of the wall. you could actually hear the wall of water coming as it washed downstream...

since 1 week has been rained out, playoffs will only require 2 rounds during september, not 3. so best 2 rounds handicap average.

i ran the handicaps with 1 standard deviation which only resulted in 2 total rounds being dropped. updated handicaps & calculations are shown on the stats sheet.

This makes no sense. How about an explanation of how you are 'working' this?

Looked at the excel file. Does my 4.25 mean anything. I thought if you had a + Handicap you subtract that # from your overall average and vice-versa for a neg handicap. It looks like you have just averaged two weeks scores. I don't see how the handicap is affecting scores.

I was thinking he's already adjusted/handicapped the scores since it says "adjusted week 1&2 score"

Adjusted score = regular score & applied handicap.... but I don't really know for a fact.

here's more explanation ... let me know if still not making sense (and somebody check my math please):
on the excel sheet>> on the right side of the big handicap standings list i've added in a few new columns where the h-cap is calculated. i ran the standard deviation for each player and threw out rounds that were outside of it (only resulted in 2 total rounds dropped). then i rounded to the nearest .25; this is the handicap & it will not change based on playoff week scores

then on the weekly results, there are 3 new columns showing the handicap calculation. the factor column is #holes/18 so rounds with less than 18 holes will count less. the "Adj Score column" has a formula that is (63+((var to par)+ handicap x factor)...so it adjusts your score that week to a par 63 score.

So this would be my stats for playoffs

look @ week 1. you shot a 67 on a par 63 layout = 4 over par. 4.5 x 1 = 4.5-- 63+4 (var to par) - 4.5 (adj hcap) = 62.5

very nice weather with no affects from flood other than a bunch of sediment on the grass. 15 players + 3 casuals; 13 in on action, devan owens from OK visiting, 3 dirtbikers on the course that got warned/ticketed by cops. played 18 holes, all 3-somes, 11 & 14 short ... rounds took ~2:10 to play. will shoot for 18 again next week if we have baskets & 3-somes again.

water in the park was green today. bright, flourescent green. turns out the green is not anti-freeze but sewer die; the city just didn't tell anybody about it. 3 of us interviewed with channel two new -- check 11pm news for coverage.

There are two different sewer systems; the storm sewer that carries runoff and the sanitary sewer that carries the poopie.

wouldn't it be obovious where the storm run off is running? just follow the creek and that should give a good answer. I haven't seen anyone conducting a study or taking notes on where the dye is going. The dye was almost gone at the end of the night so why weren't anyone but us observing the direction it ran?

nasty looking weather but not really that bad ... misty & cloudy & damp but no rain. 4 show with 12 baskets; setup a loop of 1, 5-7 & 14-18 and played two rounds of match play dubs. josh/chris win by 3.

PERFECT weather -- sunny, 72, fresh cut grass -- nice day. played singles, 2 loops of 9 holes ... 3 (short basket) thru 7, then a hole playing from 14 long to top of hill near tennis court, then 14 (short basket), 15, 16 & back to 3. will have time to play same layout next week -- so 18 holes next week.

sent the $$ in for weekend action permits today, so dates are set -- Sunday Nov 15th & Sunday Dec 13th.
