Join us this Saturday (january 22) for some good ole' chainsawin', tree-draggin', course designin', & good timin' fun!
I'll buy Shanes bbq for all the helpers :shock:

We'll start at 9am and work till 12 or 1, then take lunch.
Possible action to brew after lunch.
I'm thinking Dubs.

Big time thanks to Josh, Wade, Chris(Rubiks) and Dave for the work on the course this morning. We have a new green/modified fairway for hole 14. We also cut and removed dead trees on holes 3 & 6. The course looks great. We saw a lot of golfers enjoying it!

Leaf blowed hole #2 in its entirety and blew off the leaves on all tees and paths that are located in the woods. Looking for some of the locals(you know who you are) to step up and help with the leaf blowing/raking/removal on holes 3-6 because it is a lot of work and needs to be done sooner rather than later. JPM is proud to host the Atlanta Open!

While the argument that losing a disc in the leaves that are off of the fairway is true, I will be quick to remind you that currently discs can get lost in the fairway while only a few feet away from the basket!

after seeing the amount of dirt/earth run-off from last year, after I moved the leaves, I'm not gonna touch em this year.
But, i'll be to busy replacing the mulch on the paths anyways. probably sometime next month

holes 3-6-14 look incredible bud!

Next workday will involve fairway management on holes 15, 16, and a little trimming on 17.
Not sure of the date yet as I'm starting to get busy at work.

Another idea I have been looking at is trimming/cutting of shule along the walkways on holes 10, 11 & trimming some of the shule along 13's OB fence.
The walkway trimming would be for other park users as it wouldn't affect us golfers (unless you count having a better looking view as you walk to 11's tee pad).

Dan.... what is your schedule looking like?

I could probably be convinced to do something on the 13th of Feb. after church.

My Saturday mornings are soon to be extinct as I am leading a small group cooking class at my church.

Feb 17-18th I am off and Feb 23 and 28th as well.

Got to improve the course man!

Still need assistance in leaf removal on holes 3-6.

I have failed to see any major issues with their removal from hole #2 such as lost discs in piled leaves, erosion, or runoff issues (and I was out there that in the middle of the day when it had rained steady for 24 hours!<---only day that I had off to play golf)

Oh runoff...oh discs in leaves...enough excuses!

This is the one thing that I ask to be done in time for the AO.

Will one (or two) of you locals please help the course out?

hole 2 is 189ft ...cant really lose that 1.
Tho I had to look for about 3 minutes when I dove 1 into the pile last week - it must have entered- hit a root -then took off right.
plus, I think 3 n 4 need that skip effect, the leaves provide.
wait till its wet-then it rains soon afterwards. Nothin' but roots that will be the new nickname of hole 2

On another note when you are ready, I will bring the trailor or we need your truck so, we can move mulch to 15's fairway.
need at least 2 more people with pitchforks or equivalent to HELP.
I will be out sometime this week or next to clean out 5 some more.

Thanks for refusing and not steppin up.

I'll be out there later this month to make it happen...again.

Add it to the ever growing list of things that should get done before 15's fairway, new pin placements, etc.etc.

Hey, I got an idea... How about we do some work this week?
We can.... (any or all of these would be nice)
1. clean up 15's line to the long basket (shule is already making its way through there and will be too thick in a few weeks)
2. clean 16's left side up a bit and remove dead pines + trim the bradford pear tree that is ragged looking
3. Look at making 12 a par 4 by moving the basket back & across the path in a nice little cubby that is already there (JPZ design

)
4. decide where to move kiosk & stuff
5. add more graphics to the main rain sheltor ( I have a few to add)
6. look at making the mando on 11 a bit bigger (or is that the idea once more rocks are attained??)
7. add your thoughts/ideas here... (except raking, the leaves are packed down and don't seem to be a problem)

looks like fresh green poison ivy is coming in on left side in trees although it could be something else. and very muddy from gold to red tee

Major projects cont'd-

-removing all the barbed wire on the fence line for 13. Also fixing the fence in places where it has been torn down, trampled etc.

-new tee signs (all ready in the works) My plan is to have temporary new tee signs done in time for the AO that are represenative of the holes being played. In the future, of course, the plan is to have permenant signs on each of the tee off areas and have all the basket locations on the signs with footage and par. I'm really thinking that it is a good idea to have par for both pro and ams and then one for complete rec players. I'm probably going to hold off on having permenant ones being done untill I approach the parks department about the possibilities of new holes. That way the numbering would be correct and we wouldn't have to turn around and make new tee signs in a year or so.

-After AO our major project should be expanding the course. I really think there are some great oppurtunites out there to provide even more variety than there already is. I believe with a little bit of convincing the parks dept. might allow us to start scouting out new holes and making those possibilites reality.

We've got a lot on our plate right now but for the next month and a half our primary focus needs to be on getting this course in the best possible shape for the AO. It's not everyday that some of the World's best play your home track.

Done except for needing to move one post 1ft. to the right that is 1/3rd down the fairway. Still some barbed wire to be snagged between the black and gold tee. But otherwise the fence is back to what it should be. Plus multiple entry exit points.

I will be out this Friday afternoon and Saturday morning to do some work if anyone is so interested in meeting out there. I will be hanging the eagle sign back up on hole#1, trimming limbs on #9's mando tree to hang up the mando sign, completing the fence fix on #13, trimming and tree protection on #17, placing the drop zone marker on hole#11.

Got to give huge props to Andrew and Steven and CO. for helping clear the fairways of brush, leaves and sticker bushes. You guys are awesome!

A big thanks to Chris (Rubiks) and Cory (Kove) and Wade (Wade) for coming out to help yesterday.

We:

-Trimmed the limbs on a tree on 9 and made that the Mando instead of the old fallen timber.
-Re-hung the Eagle sign on #1.
-Trimmed and protected trees on #17.
-Finished removal of all barbed wire on the fence on #13 and fixed a misplaced fence post.
-Removed trash on #15 that had been there for at least 5-10 years.
-Re-installed #11's tee sign.
-Discussed new tee signs.
-Ate Shanes BBQ (my treat)

Update:

A large pine tree fell across the sewer line behind 1's basket. The tree does not affect hole #1's play nor does it affect #2, even though the top part did breach #2's fairway a bit.

Friday I plan on coming out there and doing some chainsawing to clean it up. Anybody who is interested in doing some DGC work should reply.

Finally going to finish that leaf blowing as well...thanks to Andrew, Steve and Me for making sure the fairways on holes 2-6 look great so far... I would always like to thank someone else if they so chose (Ahem*) to help us further the cause so that all efforts and objectives of the disc golf course are met in time for the AO. But then again perhaps herding cats is an easier objective than making sure things are ready for the AO?

Blowing leaves is a waste of time. The fairways suck when it's just dirt and besides, after a rain, it just becomes a mud sluice. All the other efforts are greatly appreciated.

Your right, I'd much rather trip over things I can't see because of a obscured path that covers everything from roots, to stumps, to sinkholes. And for the record the holes at JPM are not like Redan. They drain really well. I've played in several downpours with no major mud/puddle/drainage issues. The only holes that have drainage/standing water issues are the ones that play out in the open.

Besides its allready over half way done. Perhaps you suggest we put the leaves back? :geek:

In all seriousness tomorrow probably will be the last day that I personally plan on being out there to help beautify the course-besides next Friday. I always appreciate company though. I will be out there at about 3pm to do some cutting on the downed pine tree. Golf perhaps at around 5pm. Hope to see anyone there.

The tree on 1 has been cut and the is now not a factor on play...unless you seriosly overbrew on your approach.

Leaves have been raked and blown.

Wade (I believe) will be out there tomorrow, Sunday the 10th, if anyone would like to come out and help.

Thanks for making the course look so sweet for the AO. I wish the pros could have experienced it with a little less wind!

I would like to relay some feedback I heard from the Pros. Almost everything was positive except a few holes. The one that sticks out in my head the most is hole 3. Mainly, bc I really love the idea of the hole, and the shot you have to throw. But I found that other pro players looked at it the same way as hole 4, calling it a complete crap shoot. This sucks bc it IS a really cool hole that is soured by about 4 or 5 trees that clutter the flight path after the turn. I really believe that with a few key trees gone, that hole is the best of the wooded holes.

The pros loved the par 5s. The frog ponds even seemed to get a nice response. Not to mention there were litte frogs hanging out all over the course saturday, several right up against the baskets!

18 actually played like a par 4 bc of the 25mph headwind. But a/the new shorter placement would have been really fun to see with that wind and the slope making for tough putts.

12 had a nice wind and got dominated all day. I have never come close to reaching it before and i threw it past it both times. I bet it scored easier than 11!

The Mose heard the Big dawgs were coming and she showed some teeth with that crazy wind. But how did Dustin Perry shoot a 49 in that stuff? I felt good about my 58 :shock:
